I really like Michael Bridge on Sky Sports News. He’s not a pundit as such but because he’s a Spurs fan he’s the only one there who truly understands what it feels like for us fans when reporting on targets.

He was just asked what the Spurs fans would feel like if there was no more business this window and he just looked at her like she’d told him his house had burnt down, puffed his cheeks out and let out a big ‘sigh’ breath as if to say ‘don’t even’. He knows cos he thinks it too. It’s funny because if Sheth or Solhekol said exactly the same thing you know they’re just saying it for effect and not meaning it like Bridge does.

I saw him outside the stadium towards the end of last season with Sky waiting to interviews passer by’s. I did consider walking up to him and recreating my one interview outside the Lane many years ago when I pretended to be foreign and could barely speak English and said to the guy I thought we’d win 8-0 with Neil Sullivan getting a hatrick. I always wondered if that was shown on Norwegian TV where they were from. Anyway, I didn’t put myself up for the interview but I listened to him talking to his crew for a little bit (I was eating a chicken shish wrap right next to them) and he was just talking about the upcoming game like a fan. Long may he be on Sky, I feel like he’s our only ally sometimes!

One bad season and we are a total write off from most pundits. Would love ange to prove the majority wrong, but that comes down to if levy backs him, and that’s big if!

I think the general feeling is that Spurs will be fun, but won’t be any bother to the big teams, so I think we will get quite an easy ride from pundits, with a heavy dose of patronization.

I dont really bother with Sky Sports anymore but Jamie Weir is the same as Michael Bridge and also big Spurs fan, I think he covers the golf mainly now though not sure.

This is when we’re usually at our best, with unproven PL managers. If we manage to sort our defence out, this could be a very good few years for us. Long may ‘experts’ write us off.

Exactly this and this is what Ange does best. Defo not counting my chickens (or cockerels) on Levy / ENIC backing him, however, this is what will make an unexpected turnaround even better.

To be honest, despite what they say about finishing 5th to 8th, at this point I’d actually rather finish say 6th or 7th if we could pick up say, a League cup and a European trophy (yes even the conference league) for the next couple of seasons. We need to win something, change the mentality of the club, then push for champions league etc again once we’ve got that monkey off our back.

Of course I’d love to finish higher, but if you offered me a lower finish, but with a couple of cups right now I’d bite your hand off.

We're shit in Europe, and if anything, Ange is worse.

Just not try then eh? 😄 Only one way to get better.

I just find it strange how people drop the "win a European trophy" line like we just need to try harder at it and we'll win it.

I've seen us bombed out by farmers league teams under too many different managers to think we can win the Conference league just by qualifying for it.

I think we're as likely to win the CL as we are the ECL (0), so would rather we prioritised the league over a 3rd rate European competition.

Can be said for either though surely mate?

We can prioritise the league… to finish 4th if we’re lucky against the money clubs. To then not significantly invest, to try and finish fourth again the next season. The smallest, feintest glimmer of a hope that one day we’ll maybe make the final again.

I also don’t think we win the ECL just by qualifying, a simple look at previous years tells us that. I want the loser mentality cleared out of the club, and to go into these cup competitions and actually go out to try and win them.

Ironically we haven’t done that till now because I think we prioritise the league. I think us fans have a part to play as well, simply saying don’t bother with the cups because we’re crap in them is part of the reason we’re crap in them.

We never have, and never will be able to put 4th in a trophy cabinet, and even if we could, who actually cares?

Personally I like when we play Barcelona on a Wednesday.

I don't care when we're playing fc qarabag on a Thursday.

It’s fair, I like playing Barcelona on a Wednesday too. We’ve just played them on a Tuesday though and have as much to show for it as getting the same result as we would on a Wednesday under the lights. This game is about winning things. I’ll happily not play Barcelona at all for a couple of years and have something to show for it, it’s better than telling the grandkids about the time we only got beat by 2 goals at the nou camp.. “but they played the champions league music before hand… glory!”

I'd imagine that telling the story of reaching the CL final after beating City and Ajax would be more fun than telling the story of winning the ECL against Fiorentina after beating AZ Alkmaar

I’d rather have the cup myself as it’s a trophy.

You have an odd outlook on this, just wanting to compete in champions league is not a trophy.

I don't see us winning either, so would rather compete in the more prestigious competition.

Ask yourself this: is Jonathan Woodgates goal the most glorious moment spurs have had in the last 15 years?

Were you more excited when Woodgate scored or when Lucas scored his hat trick?

I was more excited about us winning the league cup than a semi final personally.

And I was at Wembley when we won it.

The Ajax win was awesome of course, but it led to nothing when we couldn’t repeat it in the final so what’s the point ?

Trophies and medals are what players hang on walls, not pictures of what an awesome semi final they had.

If we’d have pushed all out for the europa conference (which contrary to what was said above, we could have won) as well as the league and fa cups we would be viewed as less of a joke club and perhaps even kept Kane as at least we’d have been pushing for honours.

Just being happy being in champions league cos we have some great nights playing the top teams is a bit of a loser mentality to me, sorry that sounds harsh, but it is.

Yes.

I have great memories of jumping round the room celebrating Lucas hat trick, those memories are then finished by me thinking of us not really showing up for the final and giving away a pen inside the minute and it killing the game.

Woodgate goal, I can tell you where I was, how good it felt to see us actually lift a trophy, and show you the signed Woodgate shirt on my wall from that cup final. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This game is about winning things, if all you want to do is play on a Wednesday, fold the club.

You don't think Lucas has a shit-tonne of memerobilia on his walls from that day?

And if you think an FA cup would have kept Kane in lilywhite then I have a bridge to sell you.
