Didn't know whether to stick this here or Prem thread in gen football, but this is a good watch. Ty from AFTV making himself look as stupid as ever.

Didn’t think I’d be siding with a Man U fan but he’s bang on calling G Nev out for the interview and defending Kane

Daniel Levy
In this high-powered game of ‘Who blinks first?’, Daniel Levy could afford to simply don a pair of those joke glasses with eyes painted on and take a summer-long nap while Kanes Harry and Charlie wore themselves out.

They tried everything: an interview with Gary Neville designed to showcase the assured tranquillity of a player who genuinely believed that “ultimately it’s going to be down to me”; the constant media leaks, including the green light given to a £160m bid that never came; the gentleman’s agreement farrago undermined somewhat by the slightly more ironclad three-year contract. Elements of the reporting from some journalists and pundits seemed genuinely desperate to get Kane the Move He Deserves yet none were successful.

Levy tried nothing in particular: he resisted calls to publicly clarify the situation; he ignored the stories, the rumours, the conjecture; he operated in the best interests of his club; he went into the summer as the universally unpopular figurehead of a team clinging to the last vestiges of elitist power and he will enter the autumn with his position ostensibly strengthened and his reputation as a difficult negotiator artificially enhanced.

In truth, Levy did not have to do much to win this battle and has no cause for concern over the war recommencing in five or ten months. There was no realistic scenario in which keeping Kane for at least another year would be detrimental to Tottenham, whereas each likely outcome from him leaving in this particular window was negative.

Tottenham
It has been perhaps an under-reported aspect of the Kane situation but the “painful rebuild” that Mauricio Pochettino forecast long ago has removed a significant deal of experience and familiarity from that Tottenham squad in one fell swoop. Danny Rose, Erik Lamela, Toby Alderweireld and Moussa Sissoko are all either in their 30s now or will be by early 2022, have made a combined 916 appearances for Spurs and have been shuffled out for £16m. It increased Kane’s importance and prominence even further, long before dressing-room leader Serge Aurier was released.

The addition of Fabio Paratici as Managing Director has refined the transfer set-up at the club. Bryan Gil (20) is a low-risk purchase with the potential to thrill and Cristian Romero (23) arrives with substantial respect from Serie A. Emerson Royal (22) is an upgrade at right-back. An ideal window would have brought more attacking variance with a creative midfielder or alternative striking option but those are slight stumbles after a couple of huge strides forwards.

Can't say I disagree with any of this.
Exactly, we can't compete with Big 4. Realistically our only chance would have been if Abramovich had taken us over, leaving Chelsea to slide into administration or bankruptcy, and us to win trophy upon trophy
I doubt such an opportunity, if there was such an opportunity, people still argue about that, will come again for many years, maybe not this century
If ENIC do want 3 bn plus for the club, who is going to buy at that price
So we will continue to be part of the next tier or worse
I'll still support the club, Spurs mean so much to me. Just wish I could see us win things, the way we used to when I was a wide eyed kid in the 60s watching giants of the game like Mackay Jones Greaves White Smith and Blanchflower. Then, we were the big spenders, a glory glamour club

Yes ,looks like they have slammed the door on any more slaver takeovers...the ladder has been pulled up, Chelsea and City have it to themselves now . Poor old Geordies thought they'd hit pay dirt with their slaver country bid....but the stink
of these soft power projection moves from truly bad actors was too strong even for the footie authorities .
The disgusting Saudi murderer had too much blood on his hands even for the money loving Prem presumably .

We have priced ourselves out of a possible takeover with a ridiculously high valuation that is never going to be met.

If anyone thinks the papers know the first thing about what Levy values the club then you're in cuckoo land.
As Levy is only a minority sharholder and Joe Lewis is now 84 years old, it's a reasonable assumption that the dynamics will inevitably change when Lewis is no pulling the strings.

It may then depend on the character of the person who inherits Lewis' wealth and portfolio. Although, that said, from what I understand, Lewis doesn't directly own the majority shareholding, as in the shares aren't in his name, but in the name of the Tavistock Group (I think) which he controls. So, the manner in which the controlling interest would operate may actually depend on who takes over the running of that particular company when Lewis passes on.

Imagine if Levy was appointed Managing Director of Tavistock Group...

It's not that far fetched. If a party made a genuine inquiry and was given that asking price, it's not inconceivable that it could leak to the press. Not sure I believe the figure myself but I could see how a figure could get out.

Al Jazeera did a sting documentary on an intermediary involved in the football industry, who connects potential buyers with club owners. He reckons Levy wants £2bn (pinch of salt etc etc)

The doc was pretty good. I'll spoiler it below if anyone's interested.

Can’t read it as don’t have a Telegraph sub but big Matt Law article in the last hour absolutely slating the club from top to bottom and laying most of the blame at Levy’s door - the media finally starting to see past the end of their noses?

I think it's in the ENIC thread, one page back

We were terrible yesterday and deserve all the criticism we get but the fact the media are all of a sudden saying arsenal are world beaters just shows how fickle and reactionary they are. 2 weeks ago they were going down according to half of them!

Unfortunately though we have allowed ourselves to become the premier League joke upstaging arsenal.
