I take it you’re unaware that Hugo made one error leading to a goal and made 101 saves, with us having the third best defensive record in the league, while Allison made an entire three mistakes leading to a goal and made 76 saves despite his side having the best defensive record.

This suggests that Hugo played behind a less solid side but was both more reliable and more saved more able in emergency. He also made more sweeper clearances, saved more penalties and was only 3 behind on crosses claimed.

Long and short of it, Hugo has a harder job and still does it to a higher level. Admittedly with his passing Alisson would be a better midfielder.

I’m wary of those types of stats tbh and I don’t think it shows the entire picture.

No doubt Lloris has been busier and I don’t think he’s been terrible just inconsistent and I haven’t exactly watched all of Allison’s games tbf.

Lloris has saved us so many time this season I ave lost count. Yes distribution could be better but no question he is one of the very best keepers around. Also there is little sentiment at top level football and he not only captains us but the World Champions so clearly is considered to be a key leader

Lloris is pushing it after the season he’s had
A season where he's single-handedly kept us in the CL on at least two occasions off the top of my head, if not more, and statistically been one of the best keepers in the league this season?

As for your wary of stats thing, I somewhat agree when it comes to outfielders, but GK is the one position where performances can be judged pretty much entirely using statistics. You either save goals or you don't. You either make errors or you don't. Obviously you need to go into a bit more depth in regards to save percentages and the like, but there is very little that isn't quantifiable about the performances of a GK.

Yeah that’s fair enough. Dortmund 2nd leg he was superb that first half and there’s been others.

I guess I’d just need to see the breakdown of said stats before I started putting weight into them. I think as well you’d look at not just mistakes that have led to goals (like the one at Anfiekd) but ones that didn’t lead to goals too.

There’s other areas to his game that i do feel have declined though. His distribution has always been poor but it seems worse than usual this year. Likewise he’s never filled me with confidence defending corners or just crosses into the box in general but this year I think he’s made quite a few unnecessary punches when he quite clearly could catch it.

Anyway I don’t want to dig him out. I think he’s been ok this year but I do think he’s made a lot of mistakes, more than he usually does. As you rightly say, though, he’s had some great games too, in big matches as well.

Reason is when he cocks up it's generally a real howler. People seem to remember that far more than his match winning performances, and it's why he's getting the reputation he is. He's imo had a pretty good season, and should def start.

to be honest, I don't care what pundits say. yes Souness would only put 2 of our players in a team he made his name at, and it doesn't matter. Liverpool finished 26pts a head of us and had a great season, with nothing to show for it and hope it stays that way. just think back to Sherwood last season not having 1 Arsenal player in a combined XI. lets just hope Souness prediction works the oracle and the favourite come away very disappointed, and the 2nd favourite are all smiles.

“Spurs shouldn't be there. You say to anyone at the start of the season a team is going to lose 19 games in all competitions, and yet they'll find themselves in the final of Champions League, you'd say you are talking nonsense.

"But they've somehow got themselves there, and I think they are fortunate to be there."

"I think another way to look at it, I'm looking at it through the eyes mostly, of a Liverpool supporter, and I'd pose a question, if you were picking a team from the 22 players that were going to start the game, how many Spurs players would be in that 11?

"I'm thinking as we're standing here, Eriksen possibly in midfield, and Harry Kane, then you've got nine Liverpool players. But the minute you try and attach any logic to a game of football, you come unstuck."

Liverpool in 2005 had probably one player you'd have put in the Milan side.
