Well, sure you get idiot fans in every fanbase but a lot of the Villa fans seem to be awfully arrogant

And lets have it right if we hadnt had that horrendous midseason with injuries we'd be well above them imo.

Id bet the heap on finishing well above them next season and fancy us still to do it this season.

Fuck Id love to see us smash them on Sunday.

Overall we"ve the superior squad, hands down.

I don't tend to care too much about opposition fans aside from a few. City fans because they are deluded and think that being bankrolled by a state has nothing to do with their success. Man UTD fans because of the entitlement (becoming less of a problem every year). LiVARpool fans because they gloss over every bad decision that goes their way yet scream like babies whenever a decision goes against them. Arsenal fans because of their arrogance. West Ham fans because they are both online and in the real world the mouthiest bunch of fans I've come across.

And Chelsea fans, because they're Chelsea fans

Villa fans weren't on my radar until this season. Having finished above us last season their fans have suddenly become really arrogant. I've got no problem in saying they're having a good season, playing some decent football and are our direct competitors for fourth. Yet they seem to just want to throw shade at us and can't offer a single good word. I find that kind of behaviour weird.
I think you are reinforcing @Trix point here. These are really just faulty generalisations. Not all City fans are “deluded”; not all Utd fans feel entitled; not all Arsenal fans are arrogant; and so on. Read some of these threads with unblinkered eyes and you’ll see that we have our share of twits.

Yes but that doesnt mean its a total level playing field in that regard either.

Ive seen mixed comments from nearly every fan base bar Villa. They've got this general arrogance coming through, bizarre really.

Its actually a bit lazy and ignorant to tar everyone with the same brush

If someone thinks a thing that is contrary to your own thoughts then it is fine to question why. If the answer is that it is because they are a wanker then it is not something you need to continue thinking about.

If I recall we were all over them before the Cash challenge? And Bentancur was having a good game.

I think he planned to take someone out to try and disrupt out flow, the fact it was a player who just returned from a long term injury was adding fuel to the fire. It would have been a horrible tackle on any player let alone someone who has been through a long recovery.

He is a prick, we have our prick no denying that. Lets hope we do our talking on the pitch and beat them because we are a better team than them when everyone is fit.
My read of it was that Villa had a goal that was ruled out just before the challenge for a very marginal offside. IMO, Cash was riled up over that and it contributed to the challenge. I don't think it was deliberate or pre-meditated, more reckless or careless than anything.

Either way, I'd give Dragusin a start tomorrow and play Romero left wing so he can kick Cash up and down the line.

Think it would be very funny if they finished 6th with all this talk of guaranteeing CL with 10 games to go on Sunday

There's an adorable innocence to that comment - the comment of a fan that has never been in a race of that nature before.

Villa Talk (Race for Top 4 thread)
  • These lads are thirsting over a pass we see 3 or 4 times per game. The drought must be real
  • Hahaha my God, they seriously overrate their players don’t they? If Torres played for them he’d be the greatest defender of all time.
  • My favourite reply to the original tweet was 'The balls to make that pass is insane'. There's no pressure on him ffs and the passing lane is clear
  • Be great to beat them in their cup final on Sunday

  • They're still "big 6" in terms of revenue, which dwarfs ours. Is there a list of clubs that voted for FFP initially in 2011? Be interesting to see who wanted it.
  • knowing Villa we will win the Europa Conference, which becomes the deciding factor which gives England a 5th Champions League space, which allows Spurs into Champions League , who we face in later rounds and then they knock us out!
  • We've got more points than a normal 4th for this stage of a season right? Are we more like a 3rd placed team typically points wise?
  • If we beat Spurs on sunday I think it's sealed
  • Spurs also have loads of injuries and we have none.
    Or so I'm told.
  • An 8 point gap with only 11 games to overturn it would be too much I think.
Again I go back to looking at eventual totals. If we win against Spurs we'd have 58 points with 10 games to play.
The highest points total required for 4th over the last 10 seasons is 76. That would only require 1.8PPG from us to hit from there.
Usually the points total needed is around 71 which would be 1.3PPG
For Spurs to hit those numbers if they lose against us they'd have to hit between 1.9 and 2.4 PPG which is higher than they've averaged all season (or would be when you include the loss)
I don't feel very confident about our game against them. But if we do win then it's as good as done, imo
  • The match thread on the Spurs forum for our game is mental. I've never seen a fanbase so rattled by us before, 3 points for us would be lovely
  • Why the hate?

  • I know a spurs guy who desperately wants Romero to injure Cash badly enough to force him to retire. Poor guy has lost his mind over it.
  • My in-laws are Spurs fans and they had the strangest reaction to that Cash challenge.
My Father-in-law, who is a physicist, a lecturer, and an all round wonderful human was absolutely appalled at Cash’s challenge on Bentancur. Said he “knew exactly what he was doing” and that he’d aimed to injure him.
    Absolutely baffling.
  • We the fans can play a massive part in us beating Spurs
  • 5th is in the bag and Spurs can celebrate it
  • Honestly, their hatred of Cash is laughable. He hasn't got a bad bone in his body. He can be a bit rash and a bit clumsy with his tackling. And they're hating on him and worshipping Romero who makes genuinely nasty challenges with genuine intent to hurt players. It's pathetic

Their sense of entitlement is baffling, they’ve had a good season and a bit, and they think they’re city/liverpool Levels.

said it on a earlier post, this reminds me why we hated them in the jol era.

id love us to beat them, but I can’t see it, so think they’ll win and go on to get top 4, but they’re not the level they think they are.

Yep totally. They will get found out in the CL next season and it will hurt them in the league too. Newcastle really struggled this year and I feel like they have a bit more quality in their team.

To be honest we’d need a lot of improvement too but at least we’ve got a bit of CL experience in the team.

I worked near Aston for a while. Remember when I moved there back in the 2000s being taken aback at how high an opinion they had of themselves. It genuinely surprised me.

There’s a latent entitlement that an awful lot of fans have, particularly of clubs with a significant history. It’s actually quite valuable I think because it applies pressure to our own club but also doesn’t let the idea that you’re a “big club” die even if the evidence might suggest otherwise.

When we were mediocre in the 90s other fans laughed at our latent entitlement, then when we got good they had to shift the goalposts. Opposing fans used to laugh at the idea that we were one of the Big Five or Six, then suddenly they were using that as a stick to beat us with over FFP etc.

Honestly, if you’re as big as you think you are then do what we did: knuckle down, spend within your means, build the infrastructure over a decade or so and then reap the rewards. If you need a sugar daddy and “excessive” spending or are too impatient to tolerate the process then maybe you’re not as big a club as you think.

When we kicked off the Champios League final, I’m sure they were finishing in a play off spot in the championship. Sigh. The arrogance is odd.

Yep, and they'll be lucky if they aren't back down there in another 5 seasons. They have a rich owner, but they don't have the appeal that the top 6 clubs have, and even the likes of West Ham, Newcastle etc.

They're riding high at the moment, but as soon as it comes crashing back down it'll be difficult for them to maintain a position in the top 10 because of the increasing pulling power from clubs around them. Let them enjoy it while it lasts, inside they'll know they have a limited time before it all comes crashing back down.

Whenever we see something coming from them - keep this in mind; they have to make the most of it cause it ain't gonna last (sooner the better it crashes down for me).
