BlueMoon, not really a huge amount of chat during the game. A lot of swearing and drivel. Bit like our Match Thread I suppose.

- I wouldn't be THAT surprised to see Forest hold Spurs to a draw. Not saying it'll definitely happen, and the smart money would be on a Spurs win. But it could happen. Yes, Spurs twatted the Geordies last time out. A Newcastle team that were out on their feet. And let's be honest; Spurs will always revert to their default "spursy" setting.

- 3/5 on Spurs win screams out buying money to me

- Twice he has not followed the rules,(re Yates waving his imaginary cards) that plus Gibbs White kicked the ball away without a card.
Forest not taken their opportunities in the final 3rd and 1-0 Spurs on stroke of half time

- VAR is a joke now. Why did that take so long. It was clearly offside. Pathetic.

- Clear red for bissouma

- Spurs are lucky it wasn’t their 10th of the season so far, got away with loads of tackles like that.

- The red wasn’t as bad as the Luton player Brown’s assault on Phil yet VAR thought the ref should review the inconsistency is ridiculous

- The ball hit the goalkeeper’s legs there rather than him saving it. Why do they make it out that it was some out of this world save? He got lucky.

- Kulusevski is such a good player. Pity he plays for these twats

I find it weird when people go out of their way not to give any credit at all, especially when they showed exactly what Vicario did and talked about it. He kicks out at the ball, it doesn’t just hit him. It was a great save

That's missing the point.
You can only win what you are in. If we are in the UCL then that is our level and we fail to win that. Ok, that one is tough, but that is the level we aspire to.

In the Europa, ok, slight downgrade, but that is a realistic level to win something at right? Failed.

Ok, down in the Conference. Ouch, ok, but NOW we can at least win that and...

West Ham played a tournament at the level they are at an won it. Well done them, that is all. I am not going to go overboard on that, but to belittle it as has been done is frankly snobbery. Of course "I don't want" to be in a position to win it, but we have to accept that despite all the great things about ourt club, the lack of any silverware is very poor.

On the flip side, I agree WH fans feel as though they are over egging it, swings noth ways. We need to accept the achievement and they need to accep the level of said achievement, but when were football fans rational?!
It still irks me how poor we were in the EL the last few times we were in it.

Basel quarter final was probably as close as we got and even then we managed those ties horrendously.

But even under Poch we got to the stages where you can say "Time to take it serious now" and completely disappointed.

Then the Jose capitulation came and I was genuinely starting to believe he may have won us that.

I don't think you can always make an excuse about the league being important.

You watch Liverpool win it AND fight for the title.

We have never been able to do that

The European cup was a lot harder to get into as you had to be champions......however, if you did get in it (with all due respect to the smaller leagues) that also meant that there were really only 3 or 4 top teams in it (champions of England, Spain, Germany & Italy), so as long as you avoided them it was a pretty clear route to the semis. The current format means there are far more top teams from those top leagues, and less fillers.

It also meant the EUFA cup was far harder back then as you had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams from all the big leagues, meaning there was a higher proportion of good vs fillers.....it was arguably a more difficult competition to win than the European Cup.
Nah, your looking at it with a modern bias. The 1st 20 European Cups, 6 were won by a team from Spain, 4 from Italy, 4 from Netherlands, 2 from Germany, 2 from Portugal, 1 from Scotland and 1 from England.

Also, up until the Champions League and Premier League rebrands (and the financial disparity between the different nations, you had teams like Steuau Bucarest and Red Star Belgrade win the European Cup.

There were, but I would argue that the period that Benfica or Ajax (You could make a good case for teams like Legia Warsaw and Red Star too) were succesful correlates with one or other of the big leagues being poorer (mainly the German league).....so the principle that there were less top teams involved kinda holds and you only really played a really good team from the semi.

I thought I was going mad, so had a look at the years Liverpool/Forest won it in the late 70s & 80s:

For comparison, the year we got to the final we played:
Barcelona > PSV > Inter Milan > Dortmund > Man City > Ajax > Liverpool

1977 Liverpool won having played:
Crusaders > Trabzonspur > Saint Etienne > Zurich > Muchengladbach

1978 Liverpool won having played:
Dresden> Benfica > Muchengladbach > Brugge

1979 Forest won having played:
Liverpool > Athens > Grasshopper > Koln > Malmo

1980 Forest won having played:
Oster > Pitesti > Dynamo Berlin > Ajax > Hamburg

1981 Liverpool won having played:
OPS > Aberdeen > Sofia > Bayern Munich > Madrid

1982 Aston Villa won having played:
Valur > Dynamo Berlin > Dynamo Kyiv > Anderlecht > Bayern Munich
But there is no context of how good those teams were at the time.

Dresden, for example, won the German league 5 times and finished 2nd twice in the 70s and it wasn't because the German league was weak.

Bayern won the European cup 3 times in the 70s, including 1 year after Dresden won the league (they were in it as previous year winners, not league champs), but they don't look like a top opponent, because they are shit now.

Dynamo Dresden won the *East German* league. Bayern won the European Cup 3 years on the bounce (74-76), but the *West German* team that won the league and also competed in Years 2 & 3 was Monchengladbach

I forgot they were split back then.

Let's see if we can bring it back on topic

Arsemania:

  • "Right now, there is a decent argument for Sean Dyche to be manager of the season alongside Ange Postecoglou and Unai Emery"
  • To be fair to Ange, he has singlehandedly made Sp**s a modern team again. That alone is massive for them. They really thought they were on the verge of being elite and challenging at the top with Antonio Conte
  • Doesn’t deserve to be up there as manager of season based on where they sit now, it should be based on results. But it has to be considered impressive how quickly he has transformed their approach and club in general.
  • Majority of Arsenal fans are so biased against Sp**s that they would never see anything positive about the Sp**s manager. The rest of the football world is not so biased so they can see his strengths. I am sure if he was managing another non threatening club like Wolves or Brighton he would get far more flowers about his attacking philosophy and attractive style on here.
  • Sarr will miss the game against Everton. Bissouma will miss the next 4 games. That's 3 EPL games and FA Cup game, and then he goes straight to AFCON. I'm dying. 👏 Forest would have deserved a draw I think, but Vicario is a great GK and they had luck.
  • They are too reliant on Madders to do much of anything really. They got lucky today that Forest just had no clue in the final third. Romero is a ticking time bomb as well, so will get banned again. I prefer Villa to them for top 4/5.
  • Lo Celso was pretty good, but got injured. Same with Bentancur. Both seem injury-prone like Maddison. Then they have Sarr and Bissouma, who both take cards and go to AFCON. That's some midfield which can cause problems in many ways.. for opposition and themselves. Villa for sure if they can minimize injuries.
  • It’s the truth, even though Mik’s cultists will deny as a neutral Ange's style of football easier on eye with much weaker players. They aren’t going to win anything and i think 5th is their ceiling; Villa is better and Newcastle as well although they are a mess, Brighton maybe. But Sp.rs in the mix when we all thought they would be cr.p pre season
  • Pretty sure they will win a cup with Ange somewhere along the line. I doubt this yr.
  • Nothing to deny, Ange's style of football is easier on the eye than our play, or any other play in the league right now. There is a specific reason as well. Teams are still openly giving Sp**s the space they need to attack, instead of giving it to teams like Arsenal, City and Liverpool. Ange’s ball style is designed to encourage taking risks against them, to open up the spaces Sp**s need to attack. Will Sp**s do something big under Ange? Yes, possibly. I personally wouldn’t say it’s a guarantee because of the way teams will evolve their approach against Sp**s, which like with the rest of us… will make Sp**s look dull and boring as teams respect them more and give them less space. The PL is unforgiving. You can be a superstar outside but bang average inside. As we see with Ten Hag today.

Arsemania - Game day

  • Nottingham might get result against Sp**s if they rediscover thier home form
  • Sp**s will **** a 2-0 win here after how wasteful Forest have been
  • Sp**s lucky not to be behind in this game. So they’re definitely going to win it now.
  • That Forrest player tells ref to book Uduge and he does. Weak ref
  • 1-0 pigeon boy
  • Eugh, standard stoppage time goal and I need some wet wipes to clean all that commentator jizz from my screen. “Unstoppable Tottenham swagger…” 🤢🤢🤢🤮
  • Perfect cross by Arsenal fan
  • Would love to have Ange and pigeon boy and the high line and play well against Nott. Forest. That is what we need to see at our club!
  • Richarlson twice as many league goals as Jesus
  • Richarlison is such a clown, wtf is that celebration
  • Ange has unlocked Richarlison.....
  • Are we ready to have a conversation about ange being for real?
  • Angie, Kulu and Son all likeable
  • Son is about as likeable as a dingleberry on a warm summers day
  • I'll take Kulu as Saka's back up, I like those wicked crosses as fck. Kai would feast on them
  • Wish Arsenal had white kits like Sp**s.
  • Agent Turner gives Kulusevski a goal 2-0 Sp**s, game over
  • Kulusevski with a pinpoint cross and a powerful right-footed near post finish? Bros desperate to be Saka
  • People wonder why we sold Turner, there’s your reason, he’s awful with his feet and not that great at anything else.
  • We have terrible scouts
  • Dijon Mustardski with a nice finish there tbf
  • Bissouma red and 3 match ban, nice holiday over Christmas
  • Sp**s are such thugs but have a nice likeable team reputation
  • Can we sign Kulu?
  • Richarlison with 7 G/A in 14 PL games
  • There is a reason why he is rated higher in Brazil than the whingebag in our team
  • Everton, Brighton away and in form Bournemouth with no bissouma. Lovely.
  • Sp**s have a discipline prob anyways, lost count the amount of times they’ve had to throw on Hojberg and grind out a result due to red card.
  • Bissouma is an utter disgrace. That was a leg breaker.
  • Vicario is a monster, what a save
  • Must feel good having a keeper who actually keeps the ball out the net.
  • Man icl it’s depressing watching Vicario when you consider what we working with. I’d take him in a heartbeat tbh.
  • Vicario was out there for 15M ...
  • Fk me Forest are dreadful in front of goal. I need a shower after that. Horrid stuff.
  • What is going on with the love in for Tottenham? Commentator saying how well they are doing considering injuries and suspensions. We get one injury to Saliba last season and we were accused of bottling it after finishing second and leading for most of the season. It’s bizarre.
  • Their manager has only had 17 PL games with his team thus far whereas Teta had a few windows before we sorted things out. Probably explains why.
  • It was accepted by the club and the media that the players were no good and we shouldn’t finish higher than midtable as Arteta was doing us a favour. Postecoglou hasn’t done that even after selling Kane, that’s why he touches a nerve with the devout Arteta simps on here.
  • They actually play good football
  • Arteta has done very well in the position our team was in. Will be interesting to see where Tottenham end up this season.
  • We’ve wasted around £65m on keepers since Arteta took over - Ramsdale, Runnarson, Turner, Raya. Sp**s spend £17M and get an upgrade on Lloris. Whoever is scouting or advising Arteta on keepers is the one needing replaced first!
  • And they actually have a lot of injuries with Maddison, van de Ven, Bentancur, Lo Celso, Perisic, Solomon all out.
