Seen a number of posts from different fanbases keep saying Maddison is out injured with VdV. Rather than he simply came off for that game.
Pretty sure they are just guessing. 50/50 chance of being right I guess.

Oh absolutely they're guessing, they (some at least) just seem to be talking like he's out injured and we'll struggle without him. Maybe just wishful thinking on their part.

Interesting if that's how it would be pronounced in Greece, with the stress on the second syllable, but I recall a reporter asking him if he was saying his surname correctly in one of his first interviews, and Ange confirmed he was. Of course, he was pronouncing it the way we all do.

Perhaps one of those case where the pronunciation becomes Anglicised (or Austracised!) and the person with the foriegn surname begins using it themselves.

As far as I'm concerned, the only way you can truly define how a name should be pronounced is by how the person with that name pronounces it.

Correct. Many tough to spell Greek names have been butchered and then officially changed with the years, in the US, Oz etc.
Of course everyone called him PoSTEcoglou when he worked in Greece about 10-15 years ago. Not PosteCOglou.
And Angelos -his real name- is pronounced Anghelos with a soft g (as in "finger"), not like the Italian name Angelo. Same with Vangelis, the composer. "Anj" is an Australianism.

Love some of those Wolves comments about our high line. Anyone would think that Monday was the first time we've played it!!

It's just the first time we've had so little of the ball when we've played it. Usually we would have the ball in the opposition half when the defence push up. This is the first time we've largely had to defend with it.

Villa Talk
  • I love to hate Spurs
    But
I love Ange to do well, cos he's Aussie and the way he goes about it would shock mostpeople, yet it works at every club he goes too.
Yet I love to hate Spurs...
I would love to beat them but I would also love to not lose away.
Yes I would shake someone's hand for a point right now.
  • Spurs will have a few key players out, while we maybe get Ramsey and Moreno back, should be a good time to play them. In typical Villa fashion we get our hopes up, and then our hopes get crushed
  • If you offered me a point now I’d happily take it
  • Huge game for us. A point wouldnt he a disaster but we need to try go there win.
I do worry about high line against son. That plays into his hands
  • On paper it is the perfect time to play them.
Son will be playing two World Cup qualifiers during the international break, so he wouldn't be rested
  • Shite, especially with the injuries and suspensions. 3 points minimum
  • Spurs will be up for it. They wont want 3 defeats on bouce and two in row at home.
With loads of players away for internationals god knows how this goes
  • This game could be genuinely transformative in terms of how people think about us - win here and we'd potentially be third having beaten one of the Sky favourites - it'd be a massive step for football in the evolution away from the 'big 6
  • Micky van de Ven and Maddison have been brilliant this season for Spurs. They will really miss van de Ven's recovery pace, he's perfect for how they play.
Without Maddison their midfield lacks creativity.
In Cristian Romero, they're missing fight and spite. On his day can be a top defender but also a lose cannon. Bisoumma is also a big miss, he's found his form under Ange.
Like everyone else points out this is a perfect time to play Spurs. They often start quick so we need to be aware of that. Dier and Davies at CB can definitely be get at. Could be a game for Leon Bailey to stretch them because their wing backs often go forward leaving just 2 CB's to cover defence. Udogie can be often seen rooming in the midfield. We can defiantly hurt them
  • Going to be a very interesting game to watch. Both of us playing very high lines, be interesting to see how that works against a team playing the same way. Could be like a basketball game. With our away record cant see us winning this but its a great time to play them just as the bubble has burst slightly and they have key players out
  • Was it last season we beat them using that back 6 and hit them on the counter? I wonder could we see something like that again? Emery will know they like to play a high line as well, surely we both aren’t going to? This is the sort of game Emery will change things to exploit a weakness.
  • Hard to imagine spurs losing 3 on the spin even with their injuries but it should be a good game
  • It's like when we played Chelsea, a good time to play them. Things hsve worked out pretty well with timing against the big London clubs. Now it's time for is to turn up and give a proper away performance and not the type of shit show like at Forest where we were bullied out of the game
  • I don't feat them without Maddison
Yes Son is quality but without Maddison who is creating for him?
  • Looking forward to it.
  • They aren't all that
  • Imagine if Son gets injured on international duty
  • Is it that hard to imagine? They were largely outplayed by Wolves and looked very limited with those key players missing. Also, they've had an easier start than most so I think they've been in somewhat of a false position up until now. In some ways I wish they had more their first choice players available as they shifted to a more defensive shape to compensate for Dier and Davies being at centre back, and they will probably continue against us. But maybe at home they will be more ambitious and start Lo Celso and/or Bentancur in the midfield? Whether they play I'm a hipster ball(tm) or something more pragmatic though I still fancy us to have enough to beat them. I'm really looking forward to the game and this international break is going to feel even longer than the last one...
  • Pressures on Spurs in this game given their recent losses. If they go gung ho and they don't score early then we could rack up a big score line in this game, I'm going 4-1 to us with Diaby coming to life. UTV
  • They're losing for a reason and the Ange hype was always going to derail and key injuries makes me even more confident
  • Biggest game of the season so far. 2 weeks of hype. Seems like we're playing them.at the right time, but it'll be a hostile environment and test for our players. Can they meet the moment? Can they handle the pressure?
  • i think spurs were always in a slightly false position at the top of the league with a pretty good run of fixtures and a bit of luck.
Have settled now to their rightful level which is in and around us Should be a good open game.
Im gonna be there behind enemy lines in the posh seats so hopefully I can contain myself when our fourth goes in!

It really boils my pee when teams like Villa think we are their level. When were Villa last in the CL? Let alone a CL final. Only recently came back from the championship as well. One or two decent seasons finishing 7th and they think we're the same level

I think they are quite obviously at our level at the moment. They're playing good football and getting results. Just like us being currently behind Arsenal having been previously ahead of them for years.

We wernt in a false position, we've just lost key men to injuries and suspension.

I mean that should be obvious.
