In the hope that I can open Spurs Chat and not be faced by another 2 or 3 threads of misery, perhaps consensus will make the doom-sayers think before starting another one for a while?

I don't see what the problem is. At the moment I think there has been a lot of 'material' to analyse, discuss and hear the different opinions about. Some of it good, unfortunately last few weeks a lot of it isn't and hence the topics with a 'negative' vibe. It just goes in cycles, a few wins and good performances and it will be different*

There are plenty of knitting forums out there. I recommend ravelry.com

Yeah, but Mrs Smithers on ravelry is trying to impose a cross stitch style on her jumpers when:

a) it's a really boring turgid style

b) it's clear that her jumpers are not suited to cross stitch and that crochet is the only way to go.

Not to mention that if she'd made that substitution stitch in time, she'd have saved nine.

If things don't change soon, then I'm sorry but Mrs. Smithers has to go. She is clueless.

I think it's about time Mrs Smithers tried using her highly recommended knitting needles, instead of persisting with blunt pencils.

Could have been interesting and open to offer option 3, the posters trying to defend it.
As it is, you're clearly giving your opinion by limiting the choice.

I did - or at least I asked the question. On the whole the vast majority of fans, before the Sheriff game, were optimistic and after the Sheriff game, even more so. We have a bad result and irritatingly the bleating doom-merchants are out in force.

I didn't really explain myself last night as I was tired and found myself confronted with the same mealy mouthed grumblers as ever clogging up the forum, so I apologise for being short in the OP.

It is a minority of knee jerking pessimists who hold such opinions but it seems they are intent on making the most noise. Once again despite a flurry of "ratings" the poll results contradict their ardent pessimism.

I didn't enjoy the game against Newcastle but I enjoyed the game against Sheriff and still have great confidence in the squad and the coach. I think we're going to do things this season; qualify for the CL and possibly win a cup. We're not playing beautiful football but we're winning and palpably getting better, albeit slowly. We didn't get 2 points from 8 games. Nobody is running away with the league, it is very competitive, so I accept we're going to lose games and the occasionally surprising/disappointing one too.

I don't see that we have a divine right to play like a team who know each others game; because they don't. I don't see that spending huge sums on talented footballers means that we should play well together; that takes time. I didn't see Man City play beautiful football until some games this season but they still challenged.

I'd like to see a Spurs team challenge for the title in my lifetime and if that means they learn a highly disciplined, systematic game plan which is not so easy on the eye while the players adjust - so be it. I'm not going to piss and moan because they aren't going to win a beauty contest while doing it.

I'm happy; just not with you.

I suggest those who just want to wallow in their own misery and conceit go and follow Crystal Palace; now there is a club with real problems.

It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.’
