Well done Benty. Got faith in the lad, hope he'll bag a few more confidence building goals before the end of the season. Also, Keano worth a mention for being so supportive of Bent recently?

Gilberto looked a bit rusty still, but took the goal so well.

Bent is not that horrible, his style of play does not suit us when Hudd isn't playing...and he hasnt made any effort to change that. He's not a link-up/ball into feet style player like Berba and Keane. His strength is running in behind, and our midfield service isn't that great, from wide or the middle.

Gilberto may have problems with the pace of the prem but I think having an experienced player in the back 4 is vital...especially if he's left footed! I hope he lern english quick!

Bent is a natural, instinctive goalscorer.

feed him and he will score, we just haven't been feeding him. He's either played when we've been lacklustre as a whole team OR we've totally taken our foot off the gas.

Imo that is the fault of the midfield's creativity and not of Bent.

bent is maybe a bit similar to yakubu in the way that at times he dont seem to do much but given chances he will score you a load of goals

if he hits anywhere close to the form of his Charlton days £16m will start to look quite good value for money. needs regular match time to do that though of course

Funny that even though west ham were hopeless today Keane didn't look like scoring & then when Bent came on he could've had three.

Does that suggest that Keane wasn't able to play in our style today? or does it just mean that he wasnt given the chances by our other players and Bent was?

I hope this helps rubbish the notion that Bent can't play in our system, because it's pure tosh. it's up to the midfield/wingers/full backs to put it on a plate for Bent (he makes good enough runs all the time, if they do, he will lap it up all day.

Bent's goal brought the loudest cheer of the game from me .

Fantastic technique on the header, I didn't think he'd score from there.

Agree with this kendall, if our wide midfielders and fullbacks produce quality crosses into the box, Bent will finish them, his movement and header was very good today he needs delivery.

Well with Hutton and Bale next season and Lennon starting to mature we should be able to provide plenty of crosses.

We had this same problem with Mido. 'Where are all these great headers we were promised?' people asked. A better question would have been: 'How is he supposed to use his aerial ability when there are hardly any decent crosses or corners for him to attack?' Perversely, apart from his knock-downs, the best we saw of Mido in the air was in defence, something he got very little credit for.

Ditto Berbatov. Great aerial ability, but how many of his goals for us have come from headers?

The supply has got to be there.

And, whilst stats don't tell the whole story, it's worth pointing out that of Bent's attempts on target, about 50% have gone in. This is right up there with the best.

Well said ss, I reckon Juande is going to want more width and more crosses whipped in, we've got forwards who can put them away, I really liked the three goals we scored from crosses today and I want to see more of it, Berbs as shown today can be very good in the air and so can db.
