Bit of fun to waste time until kick off...
Due to a rather spicy dog hotpot last night I have spent quite a bit of time today sitting down with nothing else to do. Whilst I was idling away the hours in the bathroom I got to thinking about Keane's old song.
Obviously, not many left really imagine we'd mount much of a title challenge with 10 Robbies. But I began to wonder how a team of Gareth Bale's might do.
Obviously as a full back he can do a job - better on the left than the right but not a disaster on the right I imagine. Left and right wing would be a cinch, although he cut in quite a bit on the right. Right back Gareth would have to provide a bit of width.
Up front I wouldn't mind seeing him play both no.9 and no.10 roles. He's got a lot of upper body strength, and his finishing in the Inter game was hugely impressive - I can't imagine Crouch hitting the far corner so well.
In the middle I'd be tempted by playing a 'diamond' like formation as the head of the diamond role might well be a really great position for him, and I'm not sure Defensive Midfielder Gareth Bale would be completely out of his depth - as long as he has the discipline to stay back.
Centre back would be a tricky one, but I guess that the two CB Bales would have great communication - almost telepathic, so that should reduce the problems.
All in all - I think that team would at least stay up - if not do pretty well
Then I got to thinking about who else would make a team that could challenge him. Within our own squad there is only one name that stands out: Ledley King
Ledley King with good knees would make a great team. CB obviously no problem. Can't remember him playing fullback, but imagine he would nail it . Centre of the park - again a diamond. We know he can do a good job at Def Mid, but think we'd lack a bit of creativity with ACM Ledly King. On the wings we also wouldn't have much of a threat - although he is very fast, not so much with the ball and not a huge amount of tricks. Up front he'd play the Hesky role superbly, but don't expect many to fly in from distance.
Not sure whether I'd back Ledley or Gareth. In open play I think Team Bale would be more threatening, but all Ledley has got to do is win a corner. Imagine an offensive corner with 6 Ledleys prowling round the penalty area - marking them would be a nightmare! I think Team Bale would attack a lot down the wing, while Ledley would be playing a bit more through the centre - route one.
Not sure about who would make the better keeper - think they both would give a good account of themselves. So what do you think Team Ledley or Bale. Also which other players at Spurs, in the Premier League or Abroad would make a better team?
Please don't bother to post saying that this is impossible - I know that - however electrons can be in several places at once, and Bale is faster than those little negative buggers.
