VDV will offer us much more than Cole, I'd much rather have VDV at 8 million than Cole on a free.

I was very 'up' for the cole signing, now, I think we've got the better (and younger) end of the bargain.

VDV is streets ahead of JC. Cole is more flashy but VDV is much more solid all round. He is our equivalent to a Scholes in his prime who can shoot and pass well.

I too wanted Joe Cole to happen and was miffed when he sold his soul for more $$$$ by going to the bin dippers. VDV's signing has totally erased any goodwill I may have harboured for Cole and there is no doubt in my mind that we now have the better player of the two.

I wanted Joe Cole, only because I didn't know what better options were available, and I still think he is a class player, I will not go back on that.

But out of the two, I am made up with Van der Vaart, and would have chosen him had both been available at the same time.

I felt VDV was a pipe dream, wheras Cole was realistic.

I think VDV, being a bigger, tougher player with a good strike is actually someone we could use. Cole, for me, was less needed.

Obviously im more happy with VDV, but i dont think him and Cole are that much apart playerwise. VDV brings some "superior player, world class, star aura" with him which joe cole lacks, i remember when i watched the Chelsea-Inter game with my friend who only watches Seria A, he asked if this Joe Cole was any good when he came on, whereas VDV he sees as one of the best players.

But Joe Cole knows the premier league, so might be a bonus for him compared to VDV.
