The referee/officials in the West Ham game is shit. He’s like a parody of a ref.

He's never had the ability to ref a game outside of the La Liga style. He calls to many fouls and gives too many soft cards. The best refs in Europe have the soft skills to mange the game that Sanchez Martinez can't.

I notice Xabi Alonso rarely plays his best team from the outset - he often brings on Frimpong, Boniface etc toward the end of the game and they score a few goals and win. I'll need to check if the stats back that up

I don't mind if they win it, if they earned it then they earned it, and the more focus they have on that competition, the less they have on the league now. They've come too far to not take this cup seriously.

Maybe he is even saving himself a little subconsciously knowing this. He wouldn't want to get a bad lengthy injury now when the market will open in a month. He's had a few injuries already this season.
