I think we Definately need someone more "cultured" there. TBH I would be more than happy seeing VdV take the modric role and us spend the money on a Thomas Muller type. VDV has the perfect game for the deep lying, keep the ball moving player. His work rate is underrated and in a midfield 3 of Sandro, Parker and VDV he wouldn't have to do much dirty work anyway. I always saw him as this sort of player and was suprised when he played up top when we signed him.

Im guessing it must be something to do with VdV liking to play more advanced but normally as players get slightly older they tend to drop deeper, feels like this could be the perfect time for him to do it.

We need VDV's goals though so if he drops deep he will go from 15 a season to probably 5, Sig might well make up that difference and more but that isn't a certainty till we play him

Said a similar thing in the Moutinho thread the other day. If we're looking to spend £20m+ on JM, we might as well pick up the phone and have a chat with Rennes.

Although AVB likely sees JM as a better fit for what he wants. Totally agree with you about Sandro also.

M'Vila is only 22 too so would be the sort of age levy likes in a signing, his attitude does seem a cause for concern though

In Levy I trust, I wouldn't pay that price for a player coming into his last 4 to 5 years at the top if his game, if he was 20 then I could understand the price tag. What is he now, 26 - 27? He wouldn't have much sell on value which we know is always on Levy's mind. £15 million tops I'd pay.

I mean Moutinho here not Muller.

Will be 26 in September - coming up to his best years I'd say. 5 good years I' think and if he saw out those 5 years he would have been reasonable value - especially if we could sell him for maybe a quarter then?

Judging by his performance at the euros I would say its a price worth paying as he was magnificent against the best team in the world.
I would say that avb needs someone who has worked with him before in the team as the glue that holds it all together as it were.
I hope we are not gonna fuck about again until the 31st of August by which time we would have maybe lost 2 games like last year before we decide to buy. Just get these deals done and get more playing time in friendlies to get used to each other.
Come on Daniel you know it makes sense.

Sure I read the Porto chairman saying Moutinho buyout was £30m not euros. So the ITK of an agreement at £22m is nonsense. Especially as Pinto da Costa (porto chairman) has said unless the buyout is met he stays

he's notoriously stubborn about the release fees. He's open with the players too, you have a fee and if anyone matches it then you can go but until then...

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Clearly the player wants to join AVB again, and obviously Spurs want him. Just not for 30m, rightly so too.

Maybe Rafas goals wouldn't be such of an issue if we had a genuine wide threat like Muller or Remy?

Time to move on to another target then? Surprised we haven't been linked with Joe Allen, similar sorts of players, and Allen is a lot younger.

Spot on mate. Everyone bangs on that we need a Modric replacement. Well Luka wasn't a superstar when he arrived, he has grown into it. Just like Joe Allen could!

Although I rate Allen very highly, we're in a far far different place to where we were when Modric signed. We cant afford to wait a couple of years for Allen to potentially reach Modric's level. We have to get CL this season to kick on, and we need a replacement ready to step in.

Just like to confirm that im bestfordc and we were talking about an article i just related to on the itk page from a Spanish journalist confirmong the Luka deal and both seemed to agree with the info.
I read that article earlier and wondered if it was accurate, when I saw payments for Moutinho had been scheduled over 4 years I began to believe. ;)

Surely that would make Sandro the replacement for Modric? Afterall, VDV would be the more advanced of those 3 midfielders. It's the same as how we lined up last season but with Sandro alongside Parker instead of Modric.

VDV needs to be the most advanced central midfielder because his best work is done in and around the box. He doesn't have the legs to be a box to box midfielder, but Sandro does.

He's a well known commentator in Spain and last season worked as part of the coaching staff of Rome. He doesmt give exclusives unless they are almost a done deal. 35m pounds and another 5 with addons is a great deal id think for Luka and the Moutinho part is encouraging also.
