I take exception to anybody even implying that Everton haven't spent good money.
Their most expensive possible XI:
Howard
Jagielka Yobo Distin Baines
Gosling Heitinga Fellaini Neville Bilyadentinov
Yakubu
Howard: £3m
Baines: £6m
Yobo: £4m
Heitinga: £5m
Jagielka: £4m
Bilyadentinov: £9m
Distin: £5m
Neville: £3.5m
Gosling: £5m
Yakubu: £11m
Fellaini: £15m
Saha was undisclosed but I'd hazard a guess at Not Cheap.
Arteta, Cahill, Piennaar cost 5.8m between them, and yes those are very good acquisitions for not much, but we did get Huddlestone, Lennon and Kranjcar for a combined 5.8m as well so I'm not that impressed.
Is our squad worth more? Absolutely. Are Everton a cheaply assembled harem of previously unheard of nobodies? Not on your nelly. As for the argument that a lot of their spending has been funded by the combined sale of Rooney and Lescott for 55m, 50m of which was profit we can just say the same having sold Berbatov, Carrick and Keane for a combined 68m, 48m of which was profit.
Everton are a good side. They have produced, discovered, developed and paid good money for some high quality footballers. Any win against them is admirable. There is no shame in being under the cosh for 45 minutes against them, especially when a) it wasn't to the extent that the media portrayed and b) it didn't cost us, and there is a lot of pride in the fact that completely outplayed them for the first 45 minutes, especially when they have beaten both of the top two in recent times.
On top of all this they have an impressive manager, and even if they have injury problems right now, so do we. Anybody who doesn't think Sundays win was a very good one needs their head checked.
