There was a behind closed doors friendly yesterday but THFC have requested SUFC to keep all details private.

Southend United @SUFCRootsHall 14:10
Spurs have asked to keep the details of the game private, but Blues' boss Phil Brown was pleased with the exercise.

Is this unusual for all details to be kept private? All I've seen elsewhere and confirmed on the SUFC website is they lost a player with a shoulder injury sustained when scoring a goal so they got atleast 1!

There were reports going around yesterday that we won 2-1 but there has been no mention of who played for either side or who took charge of the team seeing as Poch and our first team were on a plane to America

I think Breezer mentioned that he would hopefully have some details about the game at some point

This does seem like a bit of a return to the secrecy of the AVB days, though even then it was only training sessions that were off limits, not actual games.

As was mentioned elsewhere, it was kept private because we had trialists there playing, don't want Chelsea taking them and letting them rot.

It probably means we lost 10-0 and then the training ground exploded

Nope there is an article in a Southen paper this morning saying that Spurs have asked them to keep all the match details confidential - but also a one liner saying that Southend lost with their only goal being scored by a player who simultaneieously dislocated his shoulder.

Not seen any other details so far

Why am I assuming this is Lee Barnard...

Not sure that explains a complete news embargo. Unless one of the trialists was Messi.

Even more important if it's not a well known player as games like this tend to get attended by scouts of rivals.

Don't think the Southend players would have been able to keep their mouths shut if it was someone like Tevez playing,
besided he'd probably score 5 goals. More likely to be younger players, types like Yahaya

Posted this in the youth thread without seeing this thread.

Won't say who, not because it's big news in the slightest, but because the club want to keep it quiet, and I don't want to drop anyone in it - but I've had it confirmed that the reason for the privacy is indeed trialists. The team was almost entirely made up of trialists. The first team are in America, and most the youth sides are in Belgium, so the team was trialists + a couple who don't fit either youth team or first team squad.

Not sure that explains a complete news embargo. Unless one of the trialists was Messi.

It's not just a case of the club not wanting the names released, but they also don't want any match details released so that it remains quiet who impressed. Other clubs may know who was on trial. Don't want anyone poached.

I think it was kept private to prevent fans whinging. I think most of our pre season games will be like this.
