I think people have maybe forgotten how dynamic he was in Bielsa's system and are basing their assessments on him not being particularly suited to Gaurdiola's.
He was pretty much Biesla's lynchpin. Everything revolved around him.

I think Phillips is a terrific technical footballer, ideal in the pivot. Absolutely barmy that he went and sat on Peps bench instead of kicking on. He would be a massive upgrade on Hojbjerg and Skipp imo.
He was approaching the age where he might not have got another shot at moving to a big club. He’s not a young player.

Definitely an upgrade on what we currently have

Not saying there might not be better options available but if we had a selection of Phillips, Lolo, Sarr and Biss as our 6/8 options we'd be sorted

He is a very very good player, he’s not a MOTD player of course not but he would be massive for us. Do we really need him? IMO no, not at the price he would cost us.

i reckon we could pick him up for 30-40m so if you reckon 20m odd for Hojbjerg...? not mad money

From what I am aware, he wants regular 90 minutes football. He is not confident he would get that with us. Euros in summer very important for him. Personally, if choice of Newcastle and us, I would go there

Managed to pocket Kane once while playing as CB for City, great versatile player. Doubt we get him though.

Great versatile player to have, covers 3 positions, also a rejuvenated Ross Barkley is a good shout.

I really don't want him. I much prefer the Joao Gomes and Ederson links. Both look fanstastic to me. I've never been overly enthused by Phillips, even when he was at Leeds.
