Tottenham are already preparing to launch a bid for make their first signing of the January transfer window as Ange Postecoglou targets another addition to his squad. Reports suggest the Premier League leaders are keen on capturing Uruguay international Sebastian Caceres as Postecoglou puts his scouting network to use to unearth another gem from outside of Europe.

Never seen him play, but given the quality of recent defensive additions we should definitely buy him.

I'm totally unsure whether you mean recent slightly left-field defensive signings have paid off (e.g. VDV & Udogie), so we should trust that this would too, or mean we haven't signed enough defensive quality recently so anyone we sign can only help.

Either way, that has no bearing on whether Caceres has the quality we need to compete with Dier / Phillips for a place on the bench. I currently have quite a lot of trust in our scouting network, so if they rate him then I'd be right behind this signing, but it appears to just be pure media speculation. He has been linked to four Premier League clubs this week.

Caceres has played the full 90 minutes of Uruguay's last four competitive games (including a 2-0 win against Brazil this month), so there must be something about him.
However, he's only a back-up / rotation player for his club in the Mexican league, despite being 6 years older than Phillips / 4 years older than Udogie / 2 years older than VDV / same age as Emerson & Porro / only one year younger than Romero.

I mean’t, recent defensive acquisitions have been excellent, Romero, VDV, Udogie, Porro and Vicario.
So if the same people responsible for targeting them are targeting this guy (Caceres), even though I’ve not seen him play, I’d be happy with the signing.

I agree then - if it turns out that our scouts do actually rate him.

He seems to have played regularly but missed 6 games with injury. Still usually play after his return, but been a couple of games on bench. Apparently they have great depth at CB with 3 Mexican internationals and 1 Chilean.
