Tottenham Hotspur had asked about the possibility of signing Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella during the summer, but were immediately turned down.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri quickly made clear to the London-based club that Barella is not on the market, quickly ending their interest in signing the 25-year-old.

Non story. I’d be more worried if Spurs didn’t “ask”.

“asking” doesn’t cost a penny and I’d imagine takes a phone call to establish.

I would imagine we ask about hundreds of players daily, if we didn’t, the head of recruitment needs sacking.

It's extraordinary to me how many fans don't take obtainability as a factor when trying to buy players. So many fans just put up generic lists of positions as to what we should buy.

I've no doubt we enquired about many, many players over the summer. When you look at the players we bought it became pretty clear how we did the deals:

Richarlison: we're better than Everton and they needed money. We had to overpay a bit to get him but the club were open to selling.

Bissouma: we're a bigger club than Brighton and the player had one year left on his contract making the negotiation simple as long as no bigger team came in for him.

Spence: we're a bigger club and the selling club wanted to sell.

Perisic and Forster: free transfers.

Lenglet: Barcelona didn't want him and wanted to sell.

If you look at who other clubs bought, the obtainability factor plays a huge part. The unobtainable players went to Utd who massively overpaid. But fans generally don't look into how obtainable targets are, then moan when we don't buy every position on their fantasy list.

If we ask about hundreds daily then our our head of recruitment SHOULD be sacked

Why? There are probably hundreds of players who could improve us. Enquiring about their availability should be standard.

Daily is OTT but the point remains.

He's a really nice fella,

The point I was making. And yes, I expect our dossier on players does extend into the hundreds.

Huh? Head of recruitment will talk and enquire about players for every age group. This could be several players for several different positions from the youth team all the way to the senior team.
