Tottenham Hotspur like Arsenal and Liverpool is run like a business. The club is not a vanity product or white washing public relations vehicle for ENIC. We need to keep that in mind when discussing goals, targets and ambitions and comparing Spurs to clubs like Chelsea, PSG, Man City and to a degree Man Utd.

Antonio Conte left one of the biggest clubs in the world which has to downsize so it was highly unlike he was going to agree to come to another big club to begin a redevelopment project. In truth, we needed Conte in 2019 or 2017 when he might have pushed the team to the Premier League title or a Champions League.

Conte would have been a coup, but possibly at a cost. We will never know. If he decided against working with what structure Spurs and Levy had in place then it says more about him as a manager than it does us as a club. I like Conte but he will only be headed to a club like PSG or Real or back to Chelsea now.

I just watched the new Fergie documentary again and his planning in his early days at Man Utd is something we should consider. A young, progressive, confident manager who wants to knock a team off its perch. He had long term vision when the media was telling him he had to win now. Who is our Fergie? Would we support him if he was building a young team to compete in a year or two even if that meant losing Kane?

Would we be happy to see an Eddie Howe come in with a five year plan to sign and develop players, to bring in young, hungry, ambitious players who would play for the shirt? Conte would have been great for sure, but a Howe type is probably what we need. I use Howe as an example because he has a clear philosophy and has done some decent deals and developed players - Ings, Ake, etc. Players we have been linked with in recent years.

I have worked with some top class coaches in various roles and the ones who impress me are those with a clear vision and who work with what they have. The coaches/managers who want a job only to complain because they cannot spend or the players don't respond to their methods is not what we want at Spurs.

It could be a Roberto Martinez especially if he wins the Euros, but I was told by someone who works with him that he plans to stay on to the World Cup. Jurgen Klinsmann would be a mistake. He would be better suited to a general manager role. Graham Potter could be a good shout but will need time. Listen to some of his podcasts and you will hear the vision he has for his team and club.

We have lost a bit of our identity as a club. We need to get it back. I want a manager who is proud to work at Tottenham Hotspur and not feel the club is beneath him or that he is doing us a favour.

Said Levy a couple of weeks ago (paraphrasing!). Then does the exact opposite and goes for an even more volatile Jose 2.0! Conte would probably be with us 1 year, walk if we haven't won the title. And probably destroy the dressing room confidence and the younger players.

Managers like Conte can only work with a handful of clubs. Most clubs, won't or simply can't meet his demands. Even Chelsea couldn't. We need someone that's going to bond the team, build our identity up again. He could leave our club in an even worse way - financially - if we gave in to him, and there's absolutely ZERO guaranty that we will win anything.

Whats the stupid comment? Conte is demanding, we all know it, what was the point in selling him a "project"?

Unless you are a bit dim Conte has been the same way in his last 2 jobs, either Levy is trying to appease fans or he has little grasp of football, either way he looks a fool. He has pulled the same MO a few times now, I bought it for a long time, but he is at a stage of "fool me 3 times, shame on me".

Yep. And I have supported 'em for over 60 years. No direction, no proper strategy, a seemingly scattergun approach to recruitment, both player and manager-wise.

For some of us 1977 was worse.

At least this team plays in the PL, qualified for Europe, has a fantastic stadium, some great players like Son and Kane and despite the naysayers is still a draw for most managers and players.

This now maddens me and what infuriates me is that we have a 84 yold guy who is a lifetime Spurs supporter worth 3 billion quid in the name of Joe Lewis.Why can’t he see that multi investment similar to the Russian oil baron put into chelski rewarded the club with far more success than they could have dreamed of.Wouldn’t you think he would like us to win silverware and see it before he’s no longer here? If he’s taking his money to the grave, it’s going to be a fucking big coffin.
