I'd rather we went all in on Zaha to be honest. Reports saying Dortmund want to spend the Pulisic money on him and Zaha wants to leave for CL football. We'd have to pay a premium but he's a player who can both improve our first XI and increase our options in terms of style of play.
Is Zaha really a player who would improve the XI, though? No he is not. I will say his fee should be dropping after the season he’s having

To be fair - he actually said: "but [Zaha is] a player who can both improve our first XI"

To improve our first XI - he has to be better than Dele/Erisken/Son

I don't think many people would agree he is better than any of those players. He might offer something different, but then that is a lot of money for a squad player who offers something different

Well we might possibly change formations depending on the needs of the team, we could go 4-3-3 with Eriksen and Dele deeper and then you can have the Zaha, Kane, Son trident especially as there seems to be no real urgency with finding a replacement for Dembele. I still feel 60-70 mill is a lot of money for us on somebody who isn't a midfielder although I do think the world of Zaha.

He is such a huge threat though. Liverpool were terrified of him last weekend. Stats don't tell the true story with Zaha, I do genuinely think he'd improve further with quality players alongside him.

Eriksen's future seems far from certain too unfortunately. Not that he'd be a direct replacement of course.

I'd take him in a heartbeat, he's a level or two above Lamela and Lucas. To compete for honours you need more than just a strong XI.

My issue with Zaha over Werner is purely age - Zaha is an excellent, who I'd guess we'd get 3 great years out of minimum. But what would his sell on value be at that time? We HAVE to think differently to other clubs because we're financed differently.

Werner might be less developed, but he would improve, and we would either have longer service out of him, or greater sell on value. We might not like it, but we do need to consider these things

Better is an oversimplified term, he (Zaha) brings something completely different to what we have in the side. Works his socks off too.

If he ends up at Dortmund, just you watch how good he is at a better club.

You think he's better than son/dele/eriksen?
the value of Zaha is two fold. He allows us to attack in a way we can't attack giving us more flexibility. Second, he allows some of those same players and Kane to get more rest so the club isn't riddled with injuries. If we had the ability to Sheikh money from the trees, i'd say go for it. Given our real circumstances, it comes down to price. 75M? nope. 40-50m yes especially because it allows us to get more out of existing players without losing much. and on a third note, I suspect Poch could get more consistent performance out of him further increasing his contribution to the team. (and i don't think he is better than the above))

I'd take Zaha. The figure mentioned in the link to Dortmund would be good too.

Is there something in this Wilf talk?

Seem to recollect talk that Poch loves him.

I really wouldn't bet on it mate. How many times have we been linked with Zaha in the past for it to be nothing.

He's been on my wishlist for a while now. Next move is massive for him...that would actually make up for the transfer window and stadium shite if it came off.

Sorry mate, but I don't buy that either. It's nothing more than a mortgage (albeit a billion pound one). No one has ever taken a mortgage out and then pleaded poverty when it comes to furnishing the purchased house.
I did

Wonder if he’s actually done in terms of career progression - get the feeling he’s happier being the ‘main man’ in a smaller team than another attempt at a bigger club where he may not be a regular starter.

That being said, I think that’s only the case whilst Palace retain their Premier League status (likely at present). And I note the recent media links to Dortmund (a weird move for him).

He's a good player, no doubt, but it would cost an astronomical amount to get him. Palace basically don't win without him.

Zaha would be some asset to a better team, sure Palace virtually play without a forward half the time. His numbers would massively increase.

Really? Not sure I agree with that.

Really? Not sure I agree with that.

The difference is that Zaha can absolutely dictate play from that wing position in a way that no one in our squad can. Lucas is a very traditional winger imo, and therefore pretty limited, and Lamela has never really fulfilled the promise of "Roma's future #10." But in a perfect world, I see Lamela as depth for Eriksen, not a wide player.

I've always viewed Zaha as a poor man's Hazard in the way that he plays on the left. Think about Zaha out wide and Kane/Sonny in the box. Totally gives us a new dimension.
