So I was out in London last night, a few drinks down and with a couple of gooners who I was exercising my bragging rights with and all was good with the world.

I then got chatting to a friend of a friend who turned out to be Spanish, and soon got chatting about the beautiful game and his team Real Madrid and El Clasico. So then we got onto talking about Spurs, and my word was it enjoyable.

He was gushing with praise, saying how exciting we are to watch, had some great players and how we could go along way in the CL. He said that VDV was a 'present' at 8million, which I thanked him for very much, loved little Luka and he couldn't get enough of Bale. I particularly enjoyed him saying how he 'retired Maicon' and 'used him like a little toy', I was taken aback at how a Real Madrid fan was falling over himself to praise Tottenham.

It just made me realise how good we have it at the moment, of course we have the odd problem to iron out here and there but we are really turning heads now, we are playing some great football, have some great players to watch, and I've lost count of the glorious days and nights we've had these last couple of years. The world is watching now, and appreciating us for doing it in the right manner - it's a great time to be a Spurs fan.

and you'll get a much more honest appraisal from fans outside the Premiership as well whose judgement isn't clouded by envy and jealousy - without sounding arrogant myself of course

Well I was also chatting to a Man Utd fan too, he was very impressed with how we are coping with the CL and Prem for the first time and said that anyone with a fair mind would want us to beat the likes of Man City this season as we are what is good with football. It was nice to hear.

I also reciprocated that praise and told him how much I've been impressed with Webb and Clattenberg for them recenty, top notch!

Yes perhaps my judgement on others perception of us is somewhat clouded  Stay away from Bluemoon then!

Yea, is a very nice feeling to know that people who we wouldn't have thought would are taking notice of us. Even just seeing this as the order for the odds of winning the Champions League, just seeing us in that elite group, I love it.

Barcelona
Real Madrid
Chelsea
Man Utd
Arsenal
Bayern Munich
Inter Milan
Tottenham

Makes me scared that we won't make the Champions League next year, for different reasons to last year. It's been such a great adventure and it's not even over yet, I've enjoyed every game so much, even the ones we haven't won and we get to show our qualities against the best teams with the whole world watching, plus we're on TV a hell of a lot!

I swear, if we go to the Europa Cup from this..... bad times.

Every forum has it's idiots and decent fair minded people on the whole I think, I'm sure SC would be a enjoyable place for a rival fan to have a browse on occasion!

I'm just proud that we are getting a lot of praise and respect from a lot of places, including a Real Madrid fan! I'm enjoying the here and now, it's an amazing time to be a Spurs fan.

I'd be even more happy if they were scared of us and trying to play down our chances of winning the CL. At the moment we're a novelty to RM fans, hopefully in the next few years they will hate the name Spurs and curse us under their breath.

That is of course the next step, when Real Madrid are happy to see the back of us!

That said, I'm pretty sure the current champions Inter aren't too keen on playing us again, I think if we drew them in the latter stages Maicon would head for a nervous breakdown.

That's what I mean though, we just beat Inter Milan 3-1, does it get much better than that? Then we did the Ar5enal in the same month, it's been incredible!

Arrived here in Foreign 2004 . Support Spurs ?? they'd say back then ,..in the Prem ? they'd ask . Eyebrows would raise when I said yes and in the Europa.

So after the last CL match even non football types were offering congrats in the street on progress..Coupla ladies were giggling about a goal celebration for us with Crouch hugging Mods looking like a father and child ! (they knew the names) 3 Spurs bumper stickers in the street now and having probs getting the chairs sorted for everyone wanting to see our CL matches on a stream .

So yeh , CL progress and the entertaining performances (plus my relentless Spurs promotion :)) have really put us on the map here in this bit of foreign....they should get the Bale shirts in the shops pronto.

Am I right in assuming we can only face the underlined 3 in the next stage

Of this list yes

But this list doesn't contain the less-fancied teams who are likely to finish 2nd. If we win our group by beating 20 then we won't face any of the above

Great thread SS.

I had pretty much the same experience last week, and it was a wonderful feeling.

I was in Belgium on business last week, and I was watching "El Clasico" in my hotel bar, chatting with various locals about football, when I mentioned supporting Spurs.

They had nothing but praise for us as a team, about how well we have faired in our first CL outing, and the entertaining football we have played to get where we are.

It felt fantastic to be honest, and I have never had that as a Spurs fan of 30 years.

They did say though that we would struggle to keep hold of Bale. The world wants him now :-(

I've had the same reception from peep I works with, spend 50% of my time in Spain. When I first went out there, my "fixer" was a Sevailla fan. He first came across us in the Europa Q/F and didn't really care for us much because of the Ramos situation.

Any suggestions last season of us making the CL were laughed off but I had to keep my faith!! I took him to the Everton CC game last season and he was hugely impressed with Bale (who still hadn't hit the heights of today) but wasn't that overly impressed.

He's now firmly in my pocket, I can mock as Sevilla are struggling in the Europa and we're becoming a bit of a draw in the CL. The regulars in the pub I frequent out there are now asking for the Spurs games to be shown rather than Man U/Inter/Villareal etc. Still having to compete with Barca for the TV stakes but it's 50/50!!

Yeah if you're a neutral you will be wanting to watch the Spurs in the Champions League, we've really gone in and shaken things up a bit.

The good with the bad as they say. No one who meets me would ever leave wondering who I support. It is really nice to have scores of people coming up to say how exciting it is to watch us on TV. These are truly the times when the floating young football followers pick up on teams to follow. I have no doubt we are making world wide inroads for the first time since the 80"s. COYS!

There's only one Man Utd fan at work (he's a 'proper' Man Utd fan btw) and he's been watching the Spurs CL games, instead of the Utd games because they're so boring
