Sky Sports News understands Tottenham missed the 6pm deadline to finalise the signing of Rafael van der Vaart and have asked the Premier League for special dispensation to confirm the deal.

SSN said, as they came back on air just now, that we missed the deadline but asking for a special dispensation from the league. Now they're also saying lars jacobsen is not ratified yet and wh still waiting.

This is not new though, the line all along is that the deadline was just missed, but that there was a log-jam of computer problems between us, Real, and the PL.

I think we understand that, too. This'll be what we're waiting on today. Umm, this is exactly why you're all sat here.

Just saying.

Can't see it happening if we missed the deadline. What's the point in having a deadline otherwise?

Obviously I hope it goes through though

If it is not ratified I would expect Spurs to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Not ITK, just would be the logical next step.

Surely this won't go through if the deadline wasn't met unless a specific reason can be found as to why it was impossible to meet the deadline.

Fingers crossed, but based on the EPL's usual "screw Tottenham" attitude, this is a sad sad day.

they would accept it for two reasons ..

1- they agreed it for 2 players in the past, Benjani & Arshavin.
2- This is the future of a player .. he would like to move on but time didn't help ..

I'm positive ..

I don't really understand what mitigating factors there can be for missing the deadline. If it's Real Madrid's fault, so what? The two clubs have a responsibility to meet the deadline, if both don't they can't trade a player between them.
The concept of there being a computer log-jam simply doesn't wash and frankly these clubs have had all summer to do the deal - claiming that an email took a few minutes longer than they'd hoped for is not going to be acceptable.

My guess is that we've missed the deadline, we must have done, otherwise it would have been confirmed now, and we've now asked the FA/Prem League to look at it. They;re taking their time as they have to be seen to have fairly and thoroughly investigated the circumstances, but ultimately if the paperwork wasn't there by 6, it wasn't there. I think we need to prepare for the worst folks.

presumabley VDV could buy himslef out of his contract, that we would pay for and move to us as a free agent and so not restricted by the transfer regs....

As someone was saying before, in the interest of entertainment and class of players on show, the premiership should hopefully be onside with us getting in one of europes stars....
