Just booked my ticket. My first WSL game, though not first woman’s football match. Been meaning to go to see Spurs but where we used to play was a pain in the behind for me to get to, and I wasn’t free when we played at WHL last season. Brisbane Road is easier for me to get to so gonna get to as many as I can. Looking forward to it! Feel like I need to buy a Tottenham shirt to wear, as the only football one I have is an England Russo shirt, which probably isn’t appropriate to wear to this game ?

Watched a number of the Euro games and have followed Spurs ladies for a number of years from a distance but have zero intention of going to a game.

As a season ticket holder have only missed one Premier League game that we have been allowed to attend since we left WHL.

However, it's a complete day for me with travel, so I have no inclination of watching the ladies team at all - just do not have the time.

I wish them well for new season, will watch odd match on TV but that's it. I do not have the same association with the team and support purely cos Spurs ladies. The euros have not made me want to see live games if anything just fed up with how all womens sport is being pushed in your face all the time.

TV is again wanting to tell us what to do and think, brainwashing us into thinking it's important whilst really they are playing to their own agendas.

So basically you aren't happy with progress. You just come across as sexist IMO.
The gall of these broadcasters showing women's sports on TV...I would venture a guess that men's sports are pushed in your face much more often, yet no complaints. My TV is also yet to tell me what to do or think. I need to get one of these special TV's you own.

I'm going to the United game with 12 people, and for about half of them it'll be their first football game. Very exciting.

Do hope the new forward Nikola Karczewska has good control and real pace to cause defences trouble , goal scoring and creativity in the final third has been a real problem. Soon find out if the team have improved with the new signings when they play away to The Woolwich, which will be a real test of how far the women have come.

I think the real test is actually opening day, its a tough game, United always has been a decent barometer. I can't claim to have seen much of Karczewska, apart from youtube clips. From what I've hard she's a finisher, but very raw. I'd be a little concerned if that's us done in the attacking department, considering the problems in seasons gone by.

Right now, my opinion is that the squad hasn't improved vastly on last year (only based on the players I do know), certainly not enough to make an impact in those games, but the depth has improved and the window is not likely to be done for us yet.
True but United are not yet up to the level of Arsenal or Chelsea, Man C had a poor time last season but recovered and expect they will be better this season.
It's when you look at goal scoring that Spurs problems are apparent, last season Chelsea 62 goals, Arsenal 65 , Man City 60 , Spurs 24 !!

Agree the 1st game will be tough and we will not be favourites. I'm not sure if Kit Graham has recovered from her injury but she was a big loss last season. Going to try and go to the first game with my daughters, they loved going to the opening game vs Birmingham last season.

Yeah but either are we, United will be the next fish to reel in if we are to progress. haha, don't remind me of the numbers, its baddddd and the reason I'm slightly nervous about a very raw striker being signed to solve it so far.
Got a draw at home last season to United so that or better will do . Nikola scored a lot in France but no idea what level that is , I just hope she has some real pace that is what defenders fear.

I would hope that, before too long, the word "ladies" would simply disappear when used in connection with women's sport. They are women, not ladies or girls. Girls are the younger variety of women. Ladies connote petticoats and fragility. The term is simply archaic and about as relevant as calling the Tottenham men "gentlemen". I know people don't mean to cause offence necessarily but it's really not hard to make this simple change thus ensuring you can never, ever cause offence.

Shouldn't generalise not everybody thinks that way, my wife 67 years old went out the other day to see her similar aged friends and said as she went out "I am off to see the girls" :)

Agree on ladies. But I don't think girls is problematic. It wouldn't be unusual to hear the men's team referred to as "lads", and we chant about being "Tottenham boys" (although some clubs have changed that to "(club name) girls and boys, making all the noise" which I much prefer!)

Just really will never understand what drives someone to go out of their way to go to a thread of something they’re not interested in to complain about it for no reason. Especially when it’s a place for people who do enjoy it.

Anyway… I hope the signings we’ve made help with creativity and goal scoring, I admit I don’t keep up with other leagues so I’m clueless when it comes to signings we make from other countries! Our defence was pretty good last season, so you’d hope that if we start to score more (and keep up not conceding too much) then we should have a decent season.

Of course that is okay. She can call herself and her circle of friends whatever she wishes. I’m talking about others, men particularly, referring to female sports women. You can never cause offence by calling them women; you will upset many by calling them girls; you will upset even more by calling them ladies. I have learnt in my life to try not to offend anyone. Incidentally, I am much older than your wife.

Seems in horse racing females are quite happy to be called " Ladies " and don't get upset.

It is worth noting that we used to be called Spurs Ladies, but following consultation with fans, players and staff rebranded to Spurs Women. So that term has officially been ditched by all involved.
I know that was a decision taken and all agreed upon, started of as Broxbourne Ladies I believe.

Apologies, it was in the Spurs women thread so I presumed it was about them and not general society.
No problem it was general , if you go back their was a bit of stuff from littlewilly saying the word Ladies shouldn't be used etc but it is still used in many places without any causing any offence.

It's just context. Ladies isn't a bad word. If I was at the theatre, I'd expect to hear Ladies and Gentlemen. But this is football. We don't do that kind of formality. We have boys and girls, lads and lasses, and on the odd occasion when things aren't going our way much ruder terms than that! Insisting on ladies so long after the men stopped being gentlemen is suggesting that we're somehow more fragile, aloof or shying away from the sport's bluntness and physicality, rather than embracing women as being footballers just like the blokes, warts and all.

I'm just looking forward to seeing the Ladies and Gentlemen play football again (not in the UK at the mo so everything is during the night)...
If only we had more than one channel to watch the games on, then if it was one I didn't like I could change channels. Might be being sarcastic there... blame the jetlag.

Anyway, nearly there, COYSW! We gave up our Season Tickets as we didn't get to quite a lot of games last season due to them switching to midweek, so it'll be cheaper to go on a game by game basis for now - plus the new ground is a bit more difficult to get to from Croydon (last time was an easy change at London Bridge). I can only hope the food improves.... my vegetarian option was a Pot Noodle, not the most football friendly food.... (can't complain though, it was good).
