Can someone please tell me what Sigurdsson contributes to the team ? I must be missing something.

He lulls the opposition into a false sense of security; then when they have completely forgotten he is on the pitch, he can pop up and score a goal...

Yes, it could be that. I would be interested to know how many times he touched the ball against City. In the first half Rose had to do all the attacking and defending on the left flank so when he went off we were effectively down to 9 men. Shame it took until we were 3-0 down for Tim to do the necessary.

As long as siggy, lennon and bentaleb dont start then thats just fine.

Dawson out too if verts is ok.

As the players return from injury over the couple if weeks we will find out a lot about where we are headed under Tim.
If sandro, Lamela, paulinho, and capoue don't get game time I think we're heading the wrong way.
I would go with 2 up front today and put either Paulinho or Sandro in with Mousa centrally.
Hopefully verts is back as well.

I don't give a crap as I have said before, but at least put some creativity into it.

Ade ---------------- Soldado
Eriksen

Dembele ------------------ Pulinho
Sandro

Rose ----- Verts ----- Vlad ----- Walker

Lloris

Subs: Freidel, Kaboul, Fryers, Naughton, Capaoue, Lennon, Kane

"On deadline day, it's like having 5 new signings for me" - Sherwood, Press Conference
So it looks like Sandro is available since our team news report was published. Why do they publish it so early I wonder. So the five are Vertonghen, Sandro, Kaboul, Paulinho and? Well who the hell's number 5? Team news only mentioned Vertonghen, Kaboul & Paulinho.

I don't think we should radically change the team by starting all 5ish of the returning injured players. Integrate organically to keep the team spirit and cohesion we are beginning to build, but at the same time look to strengthen where possible.

2 changes to immediately strengthen-

Vertonghen for Chiriches
Sandro for Bantaleb

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen Rose
Sandro
Dembele* Eriksen
Lennon Adebayor Siggurdson

*And if Dembele is injured then Capoue, Paulinho and possibly Bentaleb to start, due to injury not choice.

May also be a strong case to put on Soldado over Siggy but only if Sherwood believes we would be better off with 2 strikers approach, otherwise too much change.

In the coming weeks look to give Townsend, Lamela, Chadli, Paulinho etc time from the bench to show if they can give more impact than the current team and see who naturally wins the starting 11 places. Let Kaboul prove it in EL without breaking down before being integrated.

I am sure that Sherwood will also give regular chances to the youth (Bantaleb, Fryers, Kane) but this should only be due to injury/performance and not because of a tendency to pick players he 'knows'. Despite Bentaleb performing well (compared to how we expected a 19-year old to play) I will be increasingly annoyed if he keeps out Sandro for a prolonged period of time when Sandro performs well based on CL contender standards.

It will be a travesty if Vertonghen replaces Chiriches rather than Dawson

Sherwood will say something along the lines of

"I trust Dawson, I'm only just getting to know Vlad"

Yeah I just Dawson as well Tim... trust him to be shit.
