Managers and players all have to answer tough questions five minutes after the game has ended, explaining to fans/sponsors why the game played out the way it did, referees should have to do the same or even make it part of the fourth officials duties that weekend addressing the media.

Reason they don't wheel out refs for interrogation is that they know within a few weeks they would run out of refs after they had claimed something which was so far from the truth that it would be embarrassing to the FA (or whoever governs the refs) and action would have to be taken.
Instead they allow them time to dissect the events and come up with plausible excuses.
