You’ve got to think there will be some firm reports (in the proper media not some random website) coming out today of us in for somebody else we really are going to be in trouble.

I'm honestly not worried if the window closes and we haven't signed anyone, we've got a good young settled squad that is getting better every year.
That will look to leave along with manager if investment on improving the squad doesn’t happen.
We’re already short with injuries and possibly outgoing players.

I loved the quotes from Poch and Kane and their ambition and drive to succeed, but that also worries me going forward. We are going to have to up our game soon (next 1-2 years) if we have any chance on satisfying that ambition. We need something to happen in the next couple of days to at least some sign of ambition IMHO.

We've only had ITK on 1 midfielder and that was 'interest'. So as it stands we still have the same midfield as last year, and unless that changes i see no reason to bring anymore in. Plus with Amos and Skipp showing promise pre-season, there really is no need to worry.

How people can't fathom this I don't know. If you're Kane are you honestly going to be happy with no new signings and potentially selling one of his teammates to a rival two seasons in a row.

As long as we're up there and competitive yes. I doubt players are as obsessed with new signings as most fans who spend all their time tapping away on here.

I both agree and disagree. That Danny Rose article last year suggested to me the lads talk about them, and were jealous of what other teams do.

By the same token if we are up there competing again they won't particularly care either, especially the ones with recent payrises. The low wage ceiling was more of an issue no doubt.

Pochettino does not sound like a man who is in anyway dissatisfied or giving the chairman ultimatums about signings:

‘I want to challenge and fight until the end, or until that moment when my chairman Daniel Levy says to me ‘Mauricio, go home or find another project.’

‘Of course it is a massive success for the club to be in the Champions League for the third year in a row,’ added Pochettino. But maybe that is not enough, or maybe we need to change certain things. For me, it is not enough. ‘I want to challenge and fight until the end, or until that moment when my chairman Daniel Levy says to me ‘Mauricio, go home or find another project.’

Depends how you want to read that. Sounds like he'll keep on going regardless (music to DLs ears I'm sure!), but won't be happy being also rans and especially going backwards.

Maybe he won't do a Conte or Mourinho as long as things go well on the pitch, if things go south who knows...

I highly doubt 'change a few things' means end this window without signing any good players. He's never gonna walk out on an £8m per year contract!

Change a few things could mean absolutely anything. Maybe he means change formation as there's a flaw he's identified in the system he's used thus far. Maybe he means change the training regime so that the players' are knackered towards the end of the season. Maybe he means rotate the likes of Harry, Dele and Christian more. Maybe he means he needs a new pair of lucky socks on matchday. And yes, maybe he means a different transfer strategy and new signings, but quite frankly there is no way of knowing. There is literally no way of knowing, in fact, because there has been absolutely no allusion from him at nay point as to what he might feel needs to change to take us forward. The only thing in that article which comes close to being revelatory is that he feels he wants to make us successful and is fully committed to that until he is no longer wanted.

Thank god we've got new quotes to get this thread back on track with proper dissecting specific lines and sentences and ignoring others. He said the word "massive" which I like so I'm claiming that one to come up with a definition for. You all pick the other words you like and we'll see what we can coble together.

You make it sound like I twisted the words. I merely made the point that there is no twisting them, they're pretty much black and white and leave little room for ambiguity. Yes, I did infer that those words wouldn't be the words of a man pissed off with the chairman/ about our transfer activity, but I don't think that's unreasonable given the very committal language he used.

I intentionally didn't quote anyone because I am not directly referring to any specific person or their interpretation because I sure as shit don't know but rather the comedy of this thread and how much effort we are spending picking apart certain lines of his interviews.

I think that it's failry reasonable to do so though when, above all else, he's the most important person at the club.

I can see that but I think you are looking at all the positives and turning a blind eye to the potential negatives.

I think Poch is extremely professional and loves the project. I do think he hates the criticism he gets though (no Trophies) as he clearly knows he is playing with a significant financial handicap. His stance is that as long as Levy is happy with him then that's the main thing, but he 100% wants more.

I'm not of the opinion that he's gonna throw his toys out of the pram like AVB said, he's better than that. I'm sure his #1 priority was player retention which has been partly delivered and seems on course. I'm sure he's not a pure transfer-market guy like Jose, but I'm also sure he wouldn't turn down a top CM to focus on bringing Luke Amos through for example.

I think it's pretty obvious he doesn't want to keep chugging along, and as he's referred to the strengthening of other clubs recently I'd imagine he does see transfers as an important part of football.

IF things go well on the pitch all will be sweet regardless of transfers, if this window goes badly and the season does too, I think his head could get turned next time the big boys come calling (both Utd and Madrid could be sniffing in 6-12 months). It's also there in black and white his ambitions are higher than what we've currently achieved.

Anyway there's still 2 days left for Levy to deliver. I'd wager he'd be content with Grealish and a CM.

Certainly not total panic stations if this window goes wrong in terms of Poch, but it would be a considerable concern going forward.

It's not so much that I turn a blind eye to the potential negatives, as I don't think they are as damaging as some make out.

Frankly, if he isn't happy that a squad containing the likes to Lloris, Vertonghen, Dier, Eriksen, Dele and Kane (I've only named the best players but obviously there are several others of very high quality) can achieve what he is trying to achieve, then perhaps the issue with him.

Or with the fans. Even if posh was happy with the squad, the fans seem to always demand we sign someone they think are better, or more world class. The player might not fit into how the team plays or disrupt the squad, but they want him! .

I would rather sign no one than panic buy. But hope we improve our CM options and LB.

There is certainly a big difference in our financial disadvantages and the relative strength of our squad compared to our rivals, I grant you that. But the likes of Madrid and Utd are at least as strong with money to burn.

The issue is when we constantly just keep missing out by a whisker and you wonder what that last step is. It is pure luck, is it experience or is it just because we are always just a little short compared to our competitors as a result to those financial disadvantages? I certainly think like that, and it wouldn't surprise me if Poch did too.
