It sounds as if we are a good looking girl, but not the prettiest. Our dad does well, but he isn't rich. And our reputation is that we don't give it up easily. So most of hot guys are still seeking the bbd (bigger better deal) and really won't ask us to dance until late in the night.

Hopefully not too soon

Admittedly I found it strange that he decided the best dm in the world wasn't best for that position and then Chelsea made him I think their highest earner on a new 5 year deal. Really fucking weird club but they grind trophies out.

This is interesting. I know I'm not supposed to ask you questions but some general musings here.

If we have an interest in a player Poch would have met them and/or spoken to them on the phone. If they were point blank unwilling to come then Poch would know that and knowing him - I would expect he would no longer deem them targets (obviously he would only want players that want to come and fight for the cause).

The explanation therefore must surely be that it is financial. My suspicion is that we are not tabling lucrative enough offers to attract the players we want. The fact of the matter is that if we want to compete with Liverpool and City we will need to get closer to them in wages.

If we cannot do that we must accept being also rans. Or hope we luck out on a few rough diamonds...which will be 5 years in the making...at which point our current crop will be gone.

Meanwhile - there are only so many squad places available at those teams. Surely we can get one player to replace the departed Dembele in this window?!?
It's one thing Poch wanting certain players, the other factor is getting them which Levy seems to be struggling with, (and I'm sure BSoDL will always have a reason why that continues not to be baldys fault) but if the only option is to purchase a very specific player for Poch then with all the savings from signing fuck all for quite a while we should be able to offer the player near to whatever $ he wants, if he still doesn't want to come (ie knowing that he will more likely win trophies at a more ambitious club) Poch needs to move option 2, 3 and so on, it would be completely illogical in world football to say I only want 1 player or none, especially considering the mess we are currently in. What I suspect is happening is Poch wants a certain player, Levy wants to wheel and deal for that player, player/club thinks more on offer elsewhere, we end up with fuck all, repeat...

Nearer £12m, according to Transfermarkt. Where's your figure from?

It was a swap deal with Vorm and Siguardson, I'm sure we paid peanuts for him whilst selling Gylfi.

Besides the point anyway whether he was £2.5m or £12m those values represent a bargain for a competent full back who's played in our teams most successful Premiership period.

There's more to it than that though, surely? What if these players are asking for more money than Kane's new contract? I can't see a justification for paying anyone not called Lionel or Cristiano more than H. In fact, I'm not sure I'd want us to be paying a new signing as much as we pay Dele and Son (c.£150k p/w allegedly) unless they're a proper established star (i.e. more Modrić than de Jong).

What planet do you live on when you say we should be able to offer the player what he wants, do you actually understand anything about how we operate as a club, this is genuinely astounding that any self respectable Spurs fan still thinks like this.

If that is the case then he is clearly not a fit for us so we are wasting our time and Poch needs to go to option 2 etc, are you telling me Poch says I want such and such Levy comes back and says he wants Messis pay and they do nothing from there?

Fair enough. I think Alli was a bargain. With Davies we got exactly what we paid for.

We offer the player as high as we can afford if we can't afford him we need to move on, do we offer him 50k, wait and hope he changes his mind? What fucking planet do you live on?

Totally agree that we need to move on when we're priced out, but that may well be where the problem is. It's certainly what some of the ITK is intimating.

Edit: The problem is that the clubs with unlimited money are increasingly fishing in "our" pond which means agents are cranking demands up to ludicrous levels (they get a cut of their client's salary as well as fees in the deal remember).

There has to be some middle ground between Skipp or Messi, we can make improvements and Poch must have more than 1 player, if he has one player that is unaffordable then they move on, (makes zero sense to do nothing) otherwise it is poor management.

FM manager doesn't have rules especially after winning every comp possible over a 5 season period

to many live in lala land, because Man C, Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea don't have problems, and we have been finishing above them all a couple of times minimum since Poch took over, and we now have a massive stadium with the highest ST prices ………… oh wait a minute we haven't moved in yet and have refunded more than half back, and have paid Wembley over 20+m since the start, not forgetting missing out on 12k supporters money each week, on top of increasing a lot of staff's wages since the summer.

We are charging a fortune for tickets at Wembley which is bigger than the new stadium,...have sold a player and signed no-one in the summer.

We are also progressing in the CL and cups.
