Loved this quote "Manchester United are increasingly a shadow of their former selves and drowning in a self-inflicted shiny things syndrome."
You see, this is the key that the 'club needs to make a statement' brigade (sorry to label you, I love you really) seem to miss.As far as we are aware there has been no approach for Poch yet.
I see where you're coming from, but for all we know, this is exactly what he's telling the players.I have to say however much I try to ignore this I think there’s a very real possibility it could derail our season. Look what happened at Watford with Silva. And trust me the first time we slip up from here they will instantly headline “ Are rumours derailing Spurs season”. I can understand Pochettino being slightly vague on things. But he could shut this all down tomorrow with a very firm statement that under no circumstances will he be leaving Spurs in the summer. If that’s how he really feels. 6 months of this will be unbearable.
There's a massive difference. Everton actually made an approach for Silva - that's when the wheels came off. It wasn't the media speculation that caused that.I have to say however much I try to ignore this I think there’s a very real possibility it could derail our season. You have to wonder how the Manchester United fraternity and media that are all running with the Man Utd are the greatest draw in the world nobody would turn them down narrative, if and when Poch stays at Spurs, will they question whether United are no longer the biggest draw in the world or will they just go for the Pochottino has no ambition angle? I'm pretty sure I know which one they'll go for but I also know which one I'll be throwing their way, I live in hopeful anticipation.

so I go away for a bloody week and Moaninho gets the push and in a few days I'm expected to catch up on 60 odd pages

Column on why Jamie Carragher’s a delusional scouse ****
Once you’re done reading them, there will be a test.
So what as long as it isn't in our own press conferences about our team and our manager who gives a fuck. Press officer was 100% right and in fact was over polite. As for Carragher he can go fuck himself he's only mouthing off because pool are looking good. The speculation won't stop regardless.

I don't think he's having a pop at the fans really. It's more a case of saying that having a negative opinion as your default position isn't really helpful to anyone. He talks a lot about getting players to have belief in themselves and not holding themselves back in fear of making an error. Now I think he's trying to extend/promote that kind of belief to the fans.
It's worth bearing in mind that something can be said in a press conference which is taken out of context when reported and then misinterpreted by the people who read it. Poch's commens about being brave last summer are a classic case... does being brave mean spending lots of money or does it mean not spending for the sake of it and believing in the current squad? It can be interpreted either way depending on your outlook I think.
When Poch opens his empty pockets maybe it's because he's bored to tears with questions about spending. We spent nothing in the summer yet are third in the league, in the CL knockouts and in the Carabao semis. But the questions about spending keep coming, so why not have a bit of a laugh? Again, something that can be interpreted multiple ways based on your outlook.
