because Winks has to be managed as well - I really like a lot of what you write which makes this type of statement infuriating!

You don't have to like what I write but explain to me how this makes any sense. We were already down 4-2 when the Winks/Dele sub was made. Damage was already done, and much as I love Winks, he's not going to get us any goals. So Poch subs him in for what, damage limitation? Why even sub him in at all if he was concerned with managing the players overall fitness?

I have to agree, not only were the subs poor but changes should have been made at Half-Time. We didn't look at all stable at the back and the midfield was being overrun yet not a single change until after 70 minutes. It was a poor showing from Poch ?

thing is we didn't know in the summer that come the 1st weekend of December we would have so many injuries to players that would of made the bench stronger. we already have a full squad, in fact we have 28 players 2 out on loan, and Janssen injured. without a crystal ball Poch doesn't know for certain we are going to be 5 men short, and how many signings should he of made and known they wouldn't be injured now

I was one of many that pointed out injuries as the reason to why we needed fresh legs. Rose, Dembele and Wanyama are barely part of our squad anymore. I still don't believe that we did everything we could to get them out (on loan at the very least). That's why it was stupid when everyone thought the problems would come in August, it was obvious that the Christmas period is the one that threatens to break us.

disheartened by everything at the moment "life" not just football. on the football side our last 2 seasons at the old WHL was like once a game finished, I wanted the next 1 to start straight away. last season playing at Wembley took the edge off even though we did great in the CL groups, but due to health going to Wembley for me equals a mare.

in the summer (winter would be nice) I just hope we are going to really strengthen, but worried how much this season has damaged us, and if we fail to get a CL spot it won't be strengthening it will be hoping we can replace.

the stadium hopefully once finished, we get a decent namings right deal, which again might depend on when we get it. I doubt it will happen till the start of next season now, and will depend on the comp we play in.
Its one game out of a whole season lets relax a bit learn from this and move on. Its not even halway through the season.

Without wishing to repeat myself I published a stat earlier in here that was valid in Jan 2018. Poch had made 99 substitutions and the total result from those was one goal and one assist. Speaks volumes about the depth of squad I feel.

I think it also highlights the lack of goal scoring power throughout the team when Harry isn't scoring. A couple of seasons ago when Harry picked up his first injury, Alli, Son and Eriksen all stepped up to the mark. I think I am correct in saying they, with Harry, scored 85 goals between them in all competitions. Last season and this for some unexplainable reason it isn't happening. Moura and Lamela started scoring but that has dried up. Our full backs and centre backs aren't scoring.
I don't want to defend Poch as his team selections and substitutions are often questioned on here and justifiably so. However, for me we need to buy in a couple of players we can rely on to score. This season we seem to be wasting far too many chances which is costing us.

Just a thought.

Other players are scoring, but the subsitutes surely aren't.

Whilst these stats do highlight a lack of someone being able to be decisive in the way of goals I do think there have plenty of situations where a sub has had a big impact in terms of making us better in an attacking sense of allowing us to regain control of a game.

But certainly in the big games when the game is getting away from us (like Sunday) we struggle to have someone come on and drag us back into the game.

I said this in the Inter game thread and ill say this again

Play the best team win the game in the hour then rest players, not the other way round. That way we can rest players intermittently throughout. No point bringing someone on with 10 minutes to go at 4-2 down.

I know its too simplistic but I just dont see the point of having a bench if youre not going to use it until the 70th/80th minute mark and not use it until its too late.

Proactive versus reactive you mean.

my mood doesn't have anything to do with football, apart from the fact I've not be overly excited, I'm happy with the majority of results. I still think we will finish top 4.

I'm not a season ticket holder, but only joined the membership in hope of getting tickets for 1 or 2 at the new ground, Wembley is to much stress to get to as I have to drive.

Hope you're alright. There is nothing worse than feeling depressed or down. I got depressed around this time of the year a lot. Don't let life get you down to much a live for the moment if you can, try and focus on something to work towards.

Intriguing line from a piece in the Guardian today, possibly...

'Pochettino’s anecdote prompted a question – what was the club’s chief scout doing at the Merseyside derby? “Be careful,” he replied, with a smile. “There is maybe a big surprise in January.”'

www.theguardian.com/football/2018/dec/04/maurico-pochettino-tottenham-hotspur-arsenal

Probably Morgan Schneiderlin as there is talk of Everton making the Andre Gomes deal permanent in January.

Not spending all summer so we can poach a 29 year old backup midfielder from Everton would be peak Tottenham banter.

Maybe Poch feels he's seen enough from Moussa try out his " Sissoko protocol" on another subject.

Realistic Buys: Tosun, Niasse, Davies, Kenny, Lovern, Scheinderlin, Gueye.
Davies or John Jo Kenny the only two I want but getting them would cost a lot, young and english.
