Levy = Spursy

Let's face it we never had the Spursy tag before his stewardship of the club.

How has he managed to oversee what should have been our most positive beginning of the season ever into the shambles it has become:-

- Qualified for CL for third straight year
- Opening of the new stadium
- The World Cup winning captain.
- 5 England players coming back from a World Cup as heroes.
- 3 Belgium World Cup semi-finalists

We should have been riding the crest of a wave of optimism and positivity. Look what we've got instead.

speak for yourself - Im very optimistic.

Wait till he gives us a couple of good signings on deadline day and we start off the season hitting the Geordies for six, Levy will be a god.

Poch has repeated that we're ahead of schedule. The plan was to establish ourselves once in the new stadium. CL this year for the first time. We're two years ahead.

Alex from Bristol was the only one on there talking any sense. We may want to buy loads of great players, but they're not necessarily gonna choose us, and we can't just throw all the money around.

Ah I see, now I get it. So we are now trying to stand still so we are back on track.

It was Pochettino that took us to the next level.

To his credit, Levy appointed him. But whether this was good judgement or just pure luck out of a series of poor appointments is up for debate.

Well, that might not actually be true. There was ITK at the time that it was Joe Lewis who wanted Poch, after he’d heard good things about him via his contacts in Argentina. Levy wanted De Boer (like me at the time ?).

And therein lies the problem, you seem to think you need to teach people.....people are entitled to an opinion without having to be ‘taught’.

I have been a massive supporter for Levy and how he has run the club, built it in to what it is today. However, the biggest part of that recent success - in my opinion - has not been down to Daniel Levy, but Mauricio Pochettino.

We don’t know the financial situation at the club, the stadium has been a massive expense and nobody could expect the club to shell out hundreds of millions on players at this time. However, the line from the club and the ITK’s is that footballing operations would not be affected financially by the stadium, their words, not ours. On this basis our manger turned down the biggest club in world football as he was assured he would be backed.

All the ITK that’s come back since very early on in this window indicates that Levy has been dragging his heels on outgoing and incoming players. Whilst his cautious approach is great to a degree, his stubbornness has prevented us making any trades since the window opened. Other clubs haven’t had this issue, Liverpool pay over the odds, granted, but Arsenal have signed 5. Liverpool are being touted for the title and we finished above them!

If Levy carries on in this way then Pochettino will be off next season, and with him will follow the core of our team. These are the facts and the reality of the situation and people are quite right to be concerned and express their concern (respectfully) without having to be ‘taught’.
I don’t feel the need to teach people, the comment you posted was clearly facetious. I do, admittedly, feel the need to argue against anything I identify as grossly unfair,

Why so sure Levy and Pochettino are at odds?

If Pochettino is picky about who he wants, and Levy follows that string, there will be no signings if none of Pochettino’s targets are available. It is backing him. Look at Arsenal, signing 5, do you think any of those players are something Pochettino would like?
I think Levy is dragging his heals because he is cooperating with Pochettino, not because he is opposing him.
Those two are thinking long term for Spurs, and thats something rare and needed in my oppinion.

Simple. Fans, see the bigger picture and be patient, we aren’t eating at the same table as the other big clubs.
We are the tenth richest club in the world. No one is asking to spend a fortune. But clubs that are legitimately generating 100 million pounds less per year are outspending us. Our profit was 61 million last year. Stop crying poor. Anyone with even a basic understanding of finance is going to think less of you when you do. Pochettino should honestly resign. In any other industry, if you were such a critical component, in such high demand, and given such little support by higher ups, you would. The loyalty and duty he shows is amazing. Certainly more than the chairman.

That's because the internet wasn't popular enough for the little kids making silly names up for things and spread them around.

I'd say Alan Sugar most definitely provided an element of "Spursy", and if you don't think he did, it's probably because we were so shit under his stewardship that we never had the positive entrance that "Spursy" requires - it was all just disappointment and underwheling outcomes after he settled in (and TV left), bar a League Cup. It's actually really impressive how he inherited such a successful team, spearheaded all the money and wealth the modern game has, yet managed to sell the club as a poor mid-table team.

I'd say ENIC have done remarkably well to undo the damage that Sugar did to us. It's pretty amazing to think that we're not too far off competing for players and trophies with Man Utd, considering the huge growth and success they had under SAF. I won't include Chelsea/City in that, as they've had financial steroids.

You may well be right but I think that the concern of many emanates from his outburst in May. It was clear he wanted change, while we can hazard a million guesses on what 'Brave' was all about, no one can question that his outburst was down to him wanting a change in status quo. That change doesn't seemed to have happened based on where we are today and his comments last week.

I didn't say anything was definite.

If you read my post I simply say that I find it very difficult to believe. Obviously I am not privy to any information like that, but I can make logical inference by observing what other deals have been done in the transfer window.

I'd point to Jean Michel Seri for example, who went to Fulham for around £25m. Kondogbia, who we funnily enough have now been linked with for £70m, moved to Valencia earlier this window for £22m. Axel Witsel, a highly experienced Belgian international, has moved to Dortmund for £18m. You could even stretch to Fabinho to Liverpool. Does £40m seem that much now for a highly rated 24 year old?

Now of course my opinion is different from others on those players, but on balance I think you'd find that quite a few others would believe they would strengthen us in that area considering the options we have at the moment.

My point is, there has been value out there this window. And I still think there is some to be found.

If you could show me evidence to the contrary (that nobody that would improve us is or was available), then I will happily change my opinion. Until you can do that, then the possibility is always going to be there that we simply are not being decisive enough.

I was trying to quote your first point by the way (regarding you asking me what CMs are available in our price range), but I am pretty useless with these things!
Kondogbia was an agreed fee from a season loan(?). And Witsel would have commanded at least £10m+ on top if he were transferring to England. There's value if you're not English, and you're not looking to buy from the top tables.

I've got to take issue with this. Yes Pochettino is the biggest factor in our recent rise, but make no mistake we've been upwardly mobile under Levy all a long. Some peaks and troughs but the general curve has been upwards.

Now, that's very much down to how he has run the Club.

What we needed was a clever and astute coach like Pochettino to really propel us.

It's been a perfect fit. The intelligent foundations laid by Levy, and Poch the perfect manager to work under these very foundations.

Synergy, great synergy IMHO.
