Maybe an elite coach can convert his still raw materials into something more impactful?

Great addition to the squad at the price mentioned, can play all across the top let alone RWB

If Nuno didn’t get the best out of him, not sure Conte will.
That is a hilarious way to start my morning, thank you.
This isn't to say that I think it would be a good move but the idea that Conte and Nuno are anywhere near the same level is enough to make one piss one's pants with laughter

I find the love in for Lamptey and dislike for Traore a bit weird tbh. People criticise Traore for having no end product but thats the exact same weakness that Lamptey has been accused of by his own fans. If I'm not mistaken Traore registered 9 assists in his best ever Prem season whereas Lamptey's highest return is only 4 assists in a season. Both are weaker defensively but Traore is faster, stronger and has better dribbling. I believe that both of them would be good targets for us but to praise one and totally disregard the other is strange imo.
Lamptey has just turned 21 and only has 31 senior appearances.

If we can get Traore for £20m and get even £5m for Doherty then we've just massively upgraded that part of our squad for a net outlay of £15m. No. fucking. brainer.

Plus he can obviously also play in the attacking front three, either from the start, switch positions mid games or come off the bench.

If you look at Reece James and Trent A-A they’re both attacking wingbacks who provide and score - I’d take Traore to be our version.

Yep thats a very fair point. My post was more aimed at the fact both of them have been criticised for their lack of end product so discounting one for the other was a bit odd. I personally think both could be coached into top RWBs.

Both players that rely on high quality delivery to make an impact.
Traore doesn’t have that ability on the ball sadly.

He simply doesn’t have the technical ability to be like those players though

one positive about AT is that his threat will also potentially help pin back the opposition fullback. If you are Klopp you are probably going to tell Robertson to be a little bit more weary about bombing forward if there is a risk of being caught by AT and Moura/ Son / Kane on counter.

Traore wouldn't be a bad option to bully KWP in last match. He is good when he has someone shouting orders at him, and Conte does it all match long.

I would be a lot more open to AT now than I was in the summer. Simply because we now have a manager who can coach.
With Nuno in charge you ask the question, if he couldn't improve him at Wolves how is he going to do anything different at Spurs??
With Conte you see someone who has improved players that many thought were mediocre at best, especially in the wing back role.

With Nuno we hoped, but there was always a strong likelihood he would be replaced with a better manager.

With Conte we must trust as we all know he is the best chance we have to succeed. If he leaves because he wasn't backed the next manager will not be anywhere as good. So whether it is AT or another uncertain prospect, that Conte wants, we need to back him.

Incorrect. 2 seasons ago, when playing wide right (wing back for a bit and right wing later in the season) he played 1.5 accurate crosses per90.
trent this season, last season etc has had 1 accurate cross per90.

Traore in the 19/20 season got 7 assists direct from crossing the ball.

he generally (over the last 4 seasons) produces 4 shot creating actions per game - son 3.5, kane 3, moura 3, eriksen in his last 3 seasons averaged roughly 4.

the lazy narrative that he cant cross or create is really poor. doesnt seem to be taken into account that last season wolves were playing without their main attacker. His xA in 19/20 was 6.7 and he got 9 in the league. Last season it was 5.4 and got 2!! thats largely due to poor finishing.

I'll back conte in whatever he thinks but I camt be the only one thinking that lucas is made for the right wing back role?

He has pace, energy , great dribbling and can cross. Everything traore can but with a better end product and less muscles.
and there is some evidence he can tackle as well
just sayin

Another thing to consider with Traore is that in 3.5 seasons now with Wolves in the prem, he’s missed a total of 2 games through injury. Considering his style of play, that’s outstanding. I’m sure we’re all sick of the likes of Lo Celso, Sess etc constantly being out injured.

There’s no guarantee a RWB from abroad who has never dealt with the pace and graft of the Premier league would be able to maintain their body anywhere near the same. Of course they might, but it’s more of a risk. Similarly, lamptey who has been mentioned in this thread before, has already missed 30 premiership games in the last season and a half.

As they say, one of the best abilities is availability.

Conte pretty unambiguous today….

Conte on needing January signings: "For sure. After only two weeks I said we needed to improve the quality of this squad and for sure we need to. I was sure after seven to 10 days about this and then I had to make the evaluation over who I can count on and who I can't."

And Conte plays in a completely different system with a completely different ethos. We can all sit here debating the merits and failings in Traore's game but it's all pointless to be honest. Everyone thought Conte was mad when he decided Victor Moses was going to be a WB, and they though lightning couldn't strike twice when he did the same with Perisic.

If he thinks Traore has the required skillset to do similar, I'll just shut up and watch what happens should we sign him. I think he's proved he knows what he's doing in this regard.

Well, you will if we sign him!

How about just giving Emerson a chance rather than everyone writing him off after 4 months with us. A young player in a new country who isn’t comfortable with the language yet has already showed promise. I think I’ll give him a bit more time ?
who has written Emerson I thought this was about building squad?

he doesn't no and yet what we keep hearing is conte improves players not just through coaching but by telling them where to put the ball.
..patterns and all that many in our squad have benefited from that!

.....if conte thinks he can coach adama that's good enough for me

instead of looking it as writing Emerson off, look it as upgrading our fullback core of Aurier/Doherty to Emerson and potentially Adama
