Funnily enough I think plenty of people were effectively saying buy buy buy, Kelly! Chalobah! anyone!
Its a bark that we didn't get another CB to improve our bench but I've said all along that Davinson and Dier are not the catastrophe people are saying they are. Sure we wanted rid of them and we wanted to replace them with better and we should have done that but that don't make them a total disaster and that's the reality.
Ange hasn’t selected Dier for a squad let alone put him on the pitch yet and has placed a left back in Davies ahead of him in the pecking order. He’s not involved he’s not in the discussion for playing much the same way Hugo and Ndombele aren’t for covering their respective positions.

I’ll be amazed if Dier plays a single second and Davies will be a one paced left back covering centre half in a high line. Goalkeeper, midfield all fine yeah. Forward line needs tinkering but we have a variety of options so sure we’ll find something that ticks. But the situation at centre back really is a huge concern and it is indefensible (ironically) that it’s ended up like that.
We've already seen Davis doing a good job at replacing a tiring Udogie and seeing the game out.

The biggest win of deadline day is that it's finally fucking over and we can just take who we improved the squad with and get on with the actual football instead of this absolute farce of a part of a season. Batter Burnley tomorrow and we'll all feel better whether you agree the business was enough at this stage or not, and that's why we're fans, not to support this shitshow of a creation by the football authorities to have fans all at each other for 2 months. Anyone know when the squad is finalised?
Interesting points will be if Gill is in or Ndombele to see if he has a final final chance. Assuming Dier and Hugo won’t be and may even be released before it’s announced 🤷‍♂️

You are absolutely correct there isn't.

Thing is if it were just this window you wouldn't be seeing the levels of discontent though. It's every single year we are left short mate every one. We went a whole calendar year without buying anyone. We spent nearly 3 years without a single back up striker. We now have left Ange short at CB, and remember our last 3 managers have identified this area as a major problem.

Every single window posters come on here defending our transfer dealings, only ever taking that one window into account. Here are the reasons why we failed to do xyz, and in isolation that's possibly acceptable. When that happens window after window after window you have to take a deeper look into the reasons why, and there's only

I wish I could winner this twice.

The ownership of the club have medium and long term strategic planning for everything at the club except the football team!

Absolutely no chance Ndombele gets back in.

Dier should have no route back in but if 2 CBs get injured we have no choice.

Two will miss out for sure. Think Lloris and Ndombele are the clear two. No reason not to register Gil. Dier will be whether or not they decide to bin him off now or let him get his Bosman next summer.

Thanks everyone for another fun deadline day. Can’t wait to see Johnson blazing up the wing, great signing.

Shame we couldn’t strengthen the defence a bit more, but there you go.

Have to say I’m a bit disappointed at what the transfer window has done to us as a fanbase, it’s all a bit predictable tbh, but then I suspect most clubs / fans are processing similar feelings of frustration tonight. But what can we do besides try to remember, ‘it’s just a ride’ and also ‘this too shall pass’ 🤗 Let’s hold our shit down and try to remain together for the rest of what is already shaping up to be an exciting season, starting at Burnley tomorrow 👊

£20 in the pot when I can ❤️

Fucking COYS

I heard there was a change of heart by the club in the last few minutes. in fact, they guaranteed he could play in any remaining Carabao Cup games

Something that also needs factoring is those extra minutes due to time wasting.

Yes we only play week to week but players will be playing over 100mins now and it would have been good to rest them every now and again

Yeah to clarify mate Gil aside no desire to see any of them again as don’t thin they fit the model

Completely agree, but he’s not going anywhere for the foreseeable and we are paying for several poor transfer windows.
I need a dose of reality too as we’ve not signed a player I’ve wanted for years. We are short in several areas but we have improved in others.
I get the frustration I really do.
You say it yourself it's been long term issues that have led us to this point. That's why people are angry. Because it keeps happening.

And it drives me nuts too. I’m not defending it, but there is very little we can do sadly. I do hope we’ve learned lessons in the market and in particular scouting as we’re suffering from so many mistakes.

If 4 are sure. But Dorrington and Phillips should be played ahead of him. I imagine the backups for Ange will be Davies and Sanchez anyway.

We literally had 7 different players in the starting XI v Bournemouth compared to the end of last season…

Honestly, if our main gripe is that we failed to sign a backup defender (and have to make do with 3 experienced EPL and international defenders as backup instead) I don’t think we’ve done too badly.

Just to clarify this point, if Ange has specifically requested a backup CB as a priority (as seems to be the case), and Levy has promised him one and failed to get it over the line, that’s clearly a big failing on the club’s part. I’m not denying that.

I just don’t think the overall situation is as catastrophic as some people are suggesting, especially given what a mess we were in at the end of last season.
