And what about VDV? Where does that money fit in? Or Vicario?

I’m not saying I don’t wish we’d done it. I just don’t think it’s grounded in financial reality.
In regards FFP we have the most headroom of every ‘big’ club in the PL.

Im not sure how we are the only ones that this financial reality affects.

I’m not celebrating. You just need a dose of reality.

The “dose of reality” you’ve offered me is that we’ve signed good players - which I have never disputed.

It also has cack all to do with your bonkers claim that Lloris, Dier and Ndombele - who I reiterate would rather rot than have to do some work elsewhere - are great players to have about the place.

Great straw man. No one has ever said levy ‘never spends any money’. But spending less than half what you got for Kane isn’t something we should be high fiving ourselves about is it? He spends the bare minimum he thinks he can get away with and stay competitive, and he’s too clever by half
Fucking hell, people say we don't spend literally every day of the window!

Edit: Hi John!

You'd hope that we've money in the bank for future windows now and we just couldn't shift the deadwood in this window. Hopefully we back Ange long term and the lads in the last year of their contracts are out the door next season!

One game a week for the season hopefully we can keep the 1st XI fit and play some good stuff. Stick with Ange for the long term.

In my head there is two different issues.

Ange has a pretty good squad to work with except centre back where I worry an injury to Van Der Ven would be disastrous as we simply have nobody who can cover there. But he has the basis of a good team and hopefully Bentancour can come back firing and really push us on.

The second is Levy and the board . An abject failure to get rid of those he wanted to and a failure to put a structure in place to deal with issues. Scott munn or not we need far more than him and a chief scout. You can defend Paratici all you want , I know many like his work but he's
banned so therefore ineffective. He can lick Levys arse until the cows come home but the failure to replace him with competent negotiators and people with connections beyond Base has cost us here and put out new manager is a potentially rubbish situation.

But Levy sn't going to change, those who like him will just dig their heels in that bit more and those that don't will likely feel vindicated about our negativity.

Rinse and repeat.

The most depressing thing about the outgoings isn't even Dier, Tanguy and Lloris. It's those who are under contract for longer who we've failed to shift permanently. Rodon, Reguilon, Spence potentially Japhet all back here next summer and Levy will be incapable of moving them on until deadline day. Sessegnon, Hojbjerg and GLC are others with question marks and suddenly the required outs are stacking up again.

And yet, so many here want us to just sign anyone on deadline day to make up the numbers, even though it will cause the exact same problem further down the line.

The rebuild was never gonna all happen in one window.

But we have no choice. Nobody wants them. It’s the reality for the foreseeable.

They all had offers, according to a multitude of sources.

Presumably you’ve got a better source which disputes all of the others? Aside from your own wishful thinking.

But both Lloris and Dier extended their contract as their current was ending when they were clearly important players and in Spurs plans.
It's not like we extended contract for Lucas Moura when we had the option just to get 5m instead of letting him for free and now we are stuck with him

Exactly. Both Lloris and Dier were first choice players under Conte and even more so under Mourinho. Lloris dropped off dramatically and, while it's fashionable to hate on Dier, the only reason he's now surplus to requirements is we're playing a high line under Ange - neither he, nor the Club knew that until Ange was hired.

I find the rush to stick the knives into two wonderful servants of the Club really fucking embarrassing. I totally understand @Trix 's point that we can't be having senior players hanging around picking up a cheque in a young hungry squad but this is on the CLub for not finding loans to see these players out until their contracts end. Dier especially cannot be expected to get tied down to a contract at a CLub he doesn't want to be at when he can make his choice (if there are any buyers) in a years time. Loans had to be found and they weren't.

Both those players are absolute professionals who have sweated blood for Spurs. How quickly we forget,

Sometimes I think Levy is so worried about PR that he's actually discovered anti-PR... leaving the Johnson announcement until the last minute is just... 🤦🏼‍♂️

Both Kulu & porro were loans which turnt perms this summer, do you include them in January or summer buys!?
If we were to sign someone in January 2024 who improves our starting XI for the remainder of the 23-24 season, will you care whether the deal officially becomes permanent in January or June? The team would improve in January either way.

Kulu & Porro were both signed with obligations, so the club committed to them in the January, not the summer. Note that Danjuma, who joined on a temporary laon only, wasn't cited by @nicdic

The fact that we did sign those players in the previous two January windows is evidence that we could do similar positive business this January. Here's hoping...
