there is now a distinct lack of any world class/high profile players in the team with any appeal (Bale is the last man standing).
we seem to have lost a lot of character. No king, mods or VdV, even Kranjcar and charlie to a certain extent.
I guess this is the beginning of a new era.

Not everyone's ready to let go yet.

Sandro, Parker, BAE, Dawson not enough for you?

I feel so "meh" about this transfer window. Overall I think we've made great individual signings, and all of them make sense in their own way. But still, the squad feels lacking. Gutted about not getting Moutinho and losing VDV. Although I think we have a great starting XI which is slightly stronger than our best XI last season.

But it's strange, we seem to have a never-ending supply of deadwood. We sell 12 players and we still have the likes of Jenas, Bentley around as well as the manager trying to shift Huddlestone and Dawson. I dread to think what reactions would have been today if we had sold those 2.

After hours of thinking it over, I'm extremely worried about the winter period. At a time where there is a lot of PL games, Europa league, as well as potential League cup fixtures (also possible postponed rearrangements), we have a massively thin squad.

  • Only Bale, Lennon, Dempsey and Bentley on the wings
  • One natural LB with 1/2 backups
  • Only 4 first team Cbs
  • Obvious striker situation
This isn't a great situation and as I said worrying. Lloris and Vertonghen will also need time adapting to the English game and the playing through the winter, as I think they have winter breaks in Belgium and France.

To be honest, looking at the squad as a whole, it's not great and I'm finding it hard to be optimistic about the coming season.

Time to see if Villas-Boas can make a difference, many of us thought Harry was generally under-performing with the players we had the last couple years. I'd say the squad is now a little bit weaker than last year, but if AVB can get a little more out of them we could still do better. I think we'll definitely have some growing pains though and probably end up in 5th/6th. Hopefully we can fix the glaring issues in January.

I don't jizz over it, but it's nice to cheer for club & country simultaneously.

If anything, it amazes me that he has done so good for himself coming out of the MLS. I think it's great for the league. I want a better product here in the states, and players like him definitely help.

Tom Carroll could break through this season. No better time to get it done.

Could definitely see it, AVB obviously likes what he sees in him and he's probably the closest to the Moutinho-type he wants.

I know a lot of you guys are really gutted tonight. I am extremely excited about our squad. I think the window was a success. Not the best or the brightest, but it is the direction we need to go in. We got a hard nosed imposing and squad. We are going to wreck people into submission and it's going to be glorious. As an American, I can tell you Dempsey will work his ass off. He is no VdV, but you will love him(Rafa was my favorite). Quote me on this, we will finish third! Have faith my yid brothers and sister!

This is my first post. F@ck Dempsey. Couldn't careless too. Spurs does not deserve to be punished with such an average quality player that's nearing the end of his career. Levy proved to be such a noob in this deal and should have anticipated anything from Porto. Last minute deals are never ideal. If one has time, you do the f@cking homework beforehand, not just before the deadline. When will people truly understand this when it matters? : (

Where the fuck does Dempsey play in our system anyway? Makes no sense at all. Least hope going into a season for ages.
Up front back up to Ade
How is that possible? He get's whatever wage he's on at Madrid. Liverpool just pay Madrid a % or even cover all of the wages. It would make no difference to Sahin what % Liverpool pay as he'll still get his Madrid wages just like Ade did last year with City.
I think arsenal realised that Sahin wouldn't be allowed to leave next season as there was no release clause and apparently Mourinho hasnt been impressed with him last year, he said if he regains his hunger, form and speed he will be a Madrid player again

Am happy about Dempsey, and have mentioned this in the past. He's hard working, brave and gives us an aerial threat from set pieces and corners. Solid player. Fucking gutted about Rafa though :(

Agreed, I would still take our squad over any outside the big three.

Arsenal if they start scoring will be stronger than last season their best signing may be replacing Rice with Bould, I just hope he doesnt bring the Graham training methods with him

Probably not the best time to mention it, but in hindsight AVB's disinterest in Sahin rankles all the more now (and I do believe that it was AVB's decision rather than Sahin's that saw us miss out on him). I'm not faulting AVB so much as the failure to land his no1 target wasn't his fault, but Sahin would have been the best alternative imaginable (arguably better). Sigh, if we'd worked out what could and couldn't be done earlier.
