Remember when we used to sign good young British players ie carrick, daws, Lennon, bale, walker etc we don't seem to be doing that anymore??
Nop! Now we sign over 30's rated by Harry.
He knows what he's doing our Harry!

Let's not write Saha off just yet guys. He has come from a team that plays pretty average football and is built on hardwork and discipline and lots of direct football.

He will get twice the chances he did at everton with our midfield behind him. I still think he might come in handy off the bench and certainly has a spark about him. You don't play for Manchester United if you are shit and he's been unlucky with injuries and forced to carry the load at Everton as they have not many other striking options.

See how he goes before the usual "He is shit, why tyhe f*ck did we sign him" even before he has kicked a ball for us. We are in 3rd place with our best squad ever, why would we want to rock the boat bringing players in who would demand first team football??

I think these signings show that we have a very intelligent team carrying out our transfers.

Saha: He's is a quality player and if he can play to a reasonable standard it wont change our game too much when he fills in for Ade. He'll obviously play as a back up target man to Ade and will be an improvement to Pav. It also means we wont get fleeced by being desperate for a forward in the summer.

Ade: The fact we haven't signed him permanently is also good because we continue to save on his wages at least until the end of the season and to test whether he has the motivation to work hard and put a shift in on the pitch.

Pav: The likelihood is that he'll be of to Russia for a very decent fee which benefits us financially given he is surplus.

Bassong: Out on loan to Wolves is good business as he goes and will get 15 or so games under his belt until the summer when we can evaluate King and Gallas contracts/fitness.

Corluka: Unfortunate but he wasnt really the type of squad player that could come in to the team and perform ad hoc. I think, much like Bassong, he needs a consistent run in the team and by all accounts we got a reasonable future fee agreed.

Nelson: Looks like he's come in for Bassong at centre back but we mustn't forget that he is very capable as a full back. Effectively we have brought in experienced cover for centre back and full back.

All this business without actually spending much.

Not that I was in frequent company with Villa fans, but no, no I don't.

I do remember a number of Spurs fans saying that.

After what appeared to be his two best seasons in his career.

Now Saha....

Well a fair few of them were. Most were, at the very least saying that he was on the wain.

But if anything he has maybe upped his game a little.

I agree with most of that, Saha is ideal for us but I am concerned about his injury record.

Nelsen though I dont get, he has been injured all season and so isnt someone who can just come in and be up to speed, and at 34 you do have to wonder what standard he will come back at. Also can he really play at fullback? I cant remember seeing him play there. I think Bassong is the better player, so would rather we kept him as the back-up. If we had got a decent fee for Bassong and made this signing then I would understand, but we havent so I dont.

With the impact he has made, there is no excuse.

He's been injured. Most of the games he's played in, he's been pretty solid. Didn't do too badly at the San Siro.

I know what you're saying but I'd be perfectly happy to give our youngsters a chance

I'd be happy for us to give the youngsters a chance too. Not sure loaning Townsend out was a good idea in hindsight.
