Have I missed something? Yesterday was shambolic and it's obvious the club isn't going in the right direction, but as far as I can tell the only ITK we've had today is Trix saying the Bale deal is looking good on their end, but Levy is being Levy. He didn't say the deal was off.

Don't see how that ITK warrants this response, not only at Levy but at the whole board. Seems a little OTT tbh.

Trix also said their patience is wearing thin = Levy needs to buck his ideas up if he actually intends to sign him.

We’ve also had ITK over the last few days that we’ve still yet to decide on which striker we actually want.

The board rightly deserves criticism as they’ve once again failed to freshen up a rapidly declining squad and in time for the season. We’ve paid reduced rates for our incomings but still expect pre Covid figures for our deadwood.

You cannot throw away points if you’ve any aspiration to a) win something and b) finish in the top 4. Yet we do this season after season because we’re never prepared to hit the ground running.

I think if Bale pulls on the shirt of another Prem team when we had the chance to sign him Mr Levy May see new levels of rebellion among the...let me put it in his terms....customer base

~ 18 years of frustration with 1 League Cup to show for it, and the implication (possiblly wrong, but when does that ever stop anyone?) that Levy has slammed the door in the face of the golden goose because it won’t pay rent for its spot in the barn...

Oh, and A&C has let the thread off the leash after a particularly stultifying performance yesterday, so folks need a place to vent at the club’s most high-profile lightning rod.

Had we won yesterday, the general attitude in this thread would be the complete opposite. People would be saying “Get a move on and get that striker Levy! Lol!!” And “wow, wouldn’t it be amazing if we pulled off the signing of Bale?”

Instead because we lost, we’ve got people being incredibly nasty and chucking personal insults at Donna Cullen and some people priming a turd with the intention of squeezing it through Daniel Levy’s letter box because he won’t destroy our wage structure for Bale.

Fine margins.

I understand the antipathy towards Levy but an ITK suggested that Levy “needs to back Mourinho and give him who he needs”. I had got the impression that Hojbjerg and Doherty were Mourinho choices and the only other “need” he has expressed was a backup striker.

Seems to me we need more than that but are there other names or positions that Mourinho feels are needs that I’ve missed?

its all very bizzare the club was at its highest point when the stadium was completed and we made the champions league Final in the same season. Tv rights are also going to decline in the next few years with the China problems. If Enic brought Spurs as an investment that was the time to sell unless we win things now the clubs value will only decline so it makes no sense at all not to invest heavily in a declining first team as quite simply every poor season now knocks millions off the clubs value and every star that leaves is another asset stripped from that value when replaced with mediocrity. Especially if we are going to try and chase trophies with a more pragmatic style of football that doesn't attract more fans unless you actually do win.

If @Trix is worried, I am worried :(

Unless I missed it I don't think he's said he's worried.

Also, didn't he say when the Bale stuff first popped up (may be conflating with some other ITKer) that he wouldn't blame Levy for not doing the deal, as it's financially very risky for us at a very risky time?

I agree with all of that, I'm not a particular fan of Levy or his transfer policies, and I think in 3 weeks there's a real chance we'll have fucked it for the long run. Having said that, we've still got 3 weeks left and none of the ITKs have actually said any deals are off yet so I think some of the very personal vitriol being posted about Levy and others is potentially a bit toxic and OTT.

If Trix had posted "Bale is off, was all on the table and Levy bailed out. Also, none of our striker targets will be signing", then I'd understand this, but as far as I can tell nothing hugely shocking has happened today.

It’s happening in every active thread on the site already ?

Well, except one, but I’m not saying which so it doesn’t get overrun too as that one cheers me up (y)

Whilst I agree that the reaction has been over the top. Much like the reaction after the Newcastle game last year, this reaction isn't the result but the culmination of a lot of frustration. I think the frustration being that we're in the same place as we were a year ago with the team looking absolutely flat and devoid of ideas. What's concerning is that last year we were at the end of an era, we're meant to be at the start of a new era right now. Personally I think we're going to bed in our creative players over the next 2 months and we need to hang in there. Transfers are anybodies guess.

The "worry" is that Jose has apparently given us a list (from the looks of the links) of actual attainable targets and if Levy cocks that up he has no excuses left. This isn't Poch asking for only players that will improve our starting XI otherwise no one. These are all reasonably priced and attainable players for any Prem club.

As much as I'd like us to sign Bale if the finances aren't quite right for us then why should Levy or whoever agree to the deal? We're not the desperate party in this. Bale needs to move club, Real need to shift a player the manager won't play. We want to sign Bale, but it's not a position that most of us were expecting the club to upgrade this summer.

As for signing a striker if we've got five options that the manager likes then I don't really see what the issue is?

I can’t do another 3 weeks. To quote Dan the one trophy man “ it is so hard “.

Okay, so we’re at stage 4 of the ‘classic spurs transfer window’ - The Letdown

Roll on Stage 5 - The deadline day scramble

Still my favourite stage after the VdV signing!

I’m going to get my hopes up about Bale signing the same way.
