Principle doesn't come into it. If we are contractually obliged to pay him his loyalty bonus we have to pay it.

Appreciate context you make, but basis of loyalty is having not asked for transfer, these days things have moved way past transfer requests, I would say advising he won't ever play again and wants to move to Madrid morally mean he is asking for a move.

However, you are right legally if he hasnt actually submitted a request then he is probably due. Easy answer is to advise him we don't want to sell him, but will if he asks formally.

He needs to stop being such a greedy bastard.

You have to remember that Juventus have got CL football this year and they won their league last season. Just because we play in the Premier League doesn't mean that any decent forward will want to come to us over anywhere else. They tried to get RVP, so must also have money to spend on decent wages. I'd love us to sign him, but chances are Leandro and Ade are our main targets.

Is it just me or do people find it bizarre how players would want to go to a club/league that has been notorious for match fixing?

I think these loyalty bonuses are fairly standard and are written into everyone's contract. Whilst it may be true that Modric has "agitated" for a move if he hasn't submitted a formal transfer request he is probably entitled to it in the terms of his contract so unless he waives it (unlikely) or we agree a lesser bonus with him/his reps we will have to pay him his "loyalty" bonus.
The question should not be "is he legally entitled to a loyalty bonus?". The question should be "does he want to go, more than we want him to go?" If the answer to that question is "Yes", then he is very likely to have to give up his "loyalty" bonus, whatever his contract states. I doubt that his contract states he's entitled to refuse to go on tour, but it appears to be what he has done. It's a question of who holds the better cards. Is the Club, as distinct from those posting on fan sites, desperate to get rid of him? I doubt it. Is he desperate to go? Is the Pope a Catholic? Was he a complete waste of space last season, when he was forced to stay? No. Can he afford to be this season? No.

Doubt we'd sign llorente now having signed Ade. They're similar players and both want to play. For us ade being almost £10m cheaper is the clincher assuming wages (we pay) for both are similar. £10m is potentially another signing and not a small amount for us, plus ades been here and done it so a known quantity.
but we still would need 1 more striker besides JD and ADE as the latter might be off to the ANC come next Jan mate.

Juventus have more chance of winning Trophies than us at the moment - check
Juventus are in this seasons Champions League - check

This is why we won't be signing Llorente.

Not to mention they are a bigger club than us. Once people take their Spurs goggles off that decision is a no-brainer

Exactly.
Plus injuries... Look at City or Manchester United. You need strength in depth. We are fighting on 4 fronts and one injury, suspension, loss of form and we are back to square one.

ACN has been mentioned too. Adebayour alone is not enough for a team wanting to compete at/near the top.
People in here cannot tell me that they are prepared to risk our season with Defoe and Kane as back-up.

Look at the Man City game, 8 mins in and bang, Aguero out for who knows how long. City aren't going to be overly worried.
Now let's have the same scenario here... Adebayour, 1st game, injured. Out for x weeks or months.

Anyone dismissing Llorente and/or Leandro as surplus after getting Ade are mental. Its not the cost to the club in having them on the bench, it's the cost to the club NOT having them on the bench you need to consider.

My point about Juve was regarding the £14 million price. We should be able to bid higher than that.

don't mind if we get Leandro instead ...

Leandro is the one I want too but can we bring him in with the time left in the window? I imagine he would need a work permit aswell which could take time. I suppose it would come down to how much the deal has already progressed but we don't know this kind of information. I wish we would sell Luka to RM quickly however as this does seem to be stopping us from buying players. Another concern for me is that we will be stuck with Bentley, Jenas and co who are players taking up vital wages who could be better spending on players who AVB actually wants and will play. No point paying them 2 players nearly 100k a week combined to play a couple of europa/Capital one cup games. Shift Luka, shift the deadwood who won't feature much and lets go out and fill the weak areas of the squad starting with Ade + 1 other Striker, a CM, Younger Keeper and Wide competition.

11 Days left but we seem to still not be doing much overall.

I am really looking forward to the end of the window. It is an unnecessary distraction.

I have had my masters dissertation to write all summer so its a quite welcomed distraction. It would be an even better distraction if we bloody signed someone...

We could bid but we will never get him. He will never come to spurs. We should be over the moon with getting Ade (if we get him)
