I think the bed wetting here is a bit excessive, we've probably slightly improved and I think we've had an average, satisfactory window. Right back is probably about a like for like change and we've improved our back up at CB and striker.

I hardly think anyone outside of Spurs fans are going to look at Tottenham and think we've had a shocking window.

One more extra addition of Barkley/ Gomes or/ and a wing forward would have been a truly great window

I think this is the cause of the commotion. It was a good window but one piece, an attacking midfield alternative, from being near perfect. Combine that with talk of that piece being prioritized and even likely, and missing that last piece becomes all you can see, ignoring the good that happened.

Barkley can't play till Christmas anyway so what's the problem with waiting till January?

Is it guaranteed we get him in January though?

If we've just cost Everton a majority share of £35m with this supposed move collapsing, are we going to be in their best books to try and negotiate a reduced fee after Christmas?

I completely get not spending £35m on an injured player now but I think it's hugely presumptive to assume we pick him up in January.

I don't get the negativity with the window as a whole (I understand it re: today).

We had what was widely regarded as being the best first XI in the league last season. We've sold one of those players for £50m and bought a much younger and arguably better player in in his place for less than half the price. We've sold Wimmer for £18m and brought in a player who is going to be one of the best centrebacks in Europe (if not *the* best). He's going to allow us to have a dedicated back 3 with Dier/Wanyama playing further forward (where Dier's better). We did all of that while saving £3m.

Further forward is the disappointing bit but Llorente is decent and wanted by Poch, he'll be a more reliable direct backup to Kane than we've had in the last few years. We've improved last season's squad, arguably not by enough, but it's improved. Plus we've got Danny coming back and Lamela flirting with the idea of playing for us again.

So not a roaring success but certainly not a failure.

You want to know what the fuck I am talking about?

Ok here we go.

Firstly, I am basing it off suggestions from ITKs that Poch may not be happy with how Levy handles our transfers

Secondly, I admit that the ITKs and may not right regarding this, hence I specifically said "IF and IF" in the event that Poch is not happy anymore and wants to leave, I wouldnt begrudge him the move.

We've signed 5 players since then you helmet

If our window ends up being -

Walker out, Aurier in
Wimmer out, Sanchez in
Fazio out, Foyth in
Janssen out, Llorente in
Gazzaniga in

+ getting N'Jie and Benaleb permanently off the wage bill, then I'd call that a damn good window. If we get Gomes in too, or even Barkley, then that's a bonus, and Rose/Lamela will feel like new signings when they come back.

The question at the start of the window was how do you possibly upgrade a team which has scored the most and conceded the least in the league two years running.

I'd say, man for man, we've achieved that already regardless of what happens between now and 11pm.

Happy.

Stand by this. Happy.

The problem is that it massively increases the chances that he either signs a new deal with Everton, or joins another club instead.

Levy will no doubt offer pennies in January, whereas Everton will know that they can still get a respectable fee from Chelsea or some other club and Barkley himself may lose patience with us.

Regardless of his injury it would have been nice to get him into the squad, acclimatise to life at the club and be ready to get involved right away in November.

Improved the defence. Improved the back up to Kane. Replaced Walker with like for like. Beyond that it's worrying to me, we're a Son injury away from Sissoko starting the first 3 CL games. I'm just praying Eriksen, Dele and Son stay injury free or Lamela comes back at pre injury form cos we're so limited in those positions despite strengthening the squad overall.

Barkley will not play for Everton before Jan. That means 4 weeks before match fit. Season ends May, we will not pay anything like 25m for a few months. Also if Barkley waits for Summer he effectively doubles his wage with signing on fee to 200k+. IMO he's going on a free and not to us

So you think he's going to sack off the world cup?

Ha. Danny boy probably framing and adding to his trophy cabinet as we speak
We never learn though do we? We all get excited every window that this one will be different and who we might buy. At least going forward you get the sense we could all just ignore the transfer window until the last two days when we can add up how much money we've brought in from player sales and then speculate wildly about who we might be able to sign for that amount of money...

But its always the hope that kills you so we'll all put ourselves through it again next summer as January is usually chronic.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Only time will tell if the window was good or bad, i am still not sure to be honest, but weird all the positive ITK regarding what we were attempting to do and for all that to transpire to Llorente?
