Our CB pairing is great and Lloris is one of the best keepers in the league, but I'm surprised anyone thinks we're as good as Liverpool in that department. Statistically they had the best defence in Europe last season and it was the entire foundation of their crazy points tally/CL win.
VVD genuinely looks like the best CB in the world at the moment and Allison is an absolute colossus - certainly a notch above Lloris. I also think Matip gets nowhere near enough respect on here - he's an exceptional footballer and, though he's not a rock defensively, he's no chump. Gomez too is a fantastic prospect, while everyone know how good their fullbacks are.
I don't mean to gargle Klopps ballbag, but ultimately it's the solidity of their defence, and the productivity of their fullbacks that set them apart last season. They conceded 16 less than the season before and despite only scoring 5 additional goals they improved by 22 points - that's how important the defence was to them. Robertson and Trent had twenty five assists. I'd be surprised if all of ours had 5 between them.
We have serious strengths too - in Ndombele and Lo Celso we have two extremely versatile, creative midfielders that offer qualities Liverpool lack. I also think we have far more depth in attacking options than them and we could handle a bout of injuries far better, but our defence...its not even close.
