Exactly this. Ndombele, Clarke, Sess, lo Celso, Ceballos etc are all between 18-22 which screams out what the plan is.
The players on the move are all older, so won't be at their peak in 5 years, plus they might not fancy being part of a re-build. At their ages they probably want to be in established teams rather than wait another 2 or 3.

Not only that but this is the time to get the most cash for them. Their value is just going to fall. So sell reinvest on younger players on longterm contracts.

We’ve been told before, by JJ I think, that our targets are those mentioned in the media by and large.

We haven't really been linked to any right backs have we? We've had ITK that the club would be willing to buy a replacement f Trippier left. Although it was also mentioned that KWP would have a chance to prove himself in pre-season so maybe that's why.

Gutted at the Rose news, easily one of my favourite players and the best lb we've had in decades. Having said that, I can understand the reasoning behind it...

Doesn't make it any more palatable though.

So we are looking to ship out 3 out of our 4 starting back 4. All senior dressing room figures.

I'm glad JJ is opimistic. I can't help feeling a little worried tbh.

couldnt agree more especially when its what? 3 weeks til our first game? they'll have to hit the ground running, plus get use to the poch training, new style of play etc... if we sign someone by the end of the week (unlikely) it doesn't leave loing.

Good point, swapping out Rose, Toby and Trippier for the two Sessegnon's and Saliba (for example, not guaranteed) probably sees us make a small transfer profit and reduce the wage bill.

Assuming Poch/our scouts judgement is OK we get in players with a higher ceiling for less.

Worrying amount of change in one window. Many of us predicted this after the last summer, hope Levy delivers

I think if we do go 4-3-3 then the attacking element of the full backs is more important so KWP and the purchase of Sess could be the answer.

And very dangerous if you ask me. Having some youngsters in defence surrounded by experience is ok. But this seems very severe.

I imagine the outgoings will be based on scientific readings that show the older players have peaked and are now on the decline. Even if at the start of the decline its prudent to move them on and replace them with younger, fitter players at the start of their development.

I'm not too worried about that side of things as we've got squad players who are more than capable of stepping in while new players acclimatize. Davies can come in for Rose, Sanchez for Toby, Aurier/KWP for Trippier.

We still need additions in defence, a few injuries and we’d be screwed. Hopefully there’s incomings lined up

i kind of look at Chelsea from their successful era. no matter who came and went you had a spine of Cech, Terry, Lamps, Drogba - with snr figures brought in to support. for us that's Hugo, Verts(or other), Dier, Dele, Kane.

if you thing Essien brought them a period of success, that's like Ndombele. If you remember Joe Cole/Malouda having huge impacts, that's like Son and Moura. Ashley Cole could be Danny Rose/Tripps. Toby is Carvaliho

So like others i'm comfortable that the spine is staying the same, and as the ITK suggests we are evolving. and good to do it now rather than wait until they're over the hill.

Hoping we can continue to replace quality with quality. The ITK so far has been strong on this front.

If we want to win the league. We have to address our weaknesses. Look in any match day thread (through the regular bullshit) and the the main problem we’ve have is with the fullbacks. End product from them has been poor. Both are good players. Both can be replaced with better players. If Poch is about to embark on phase 2 of his plan. This is the the area we need to focus on. Nothing lasts forever. And I suspect this isn’t Poch pushing Rose out the door as much as it looks mutual. He wants to go back oop north to be with his family. He’s been a great servant to the club. But there are upgrades out there. Look at Liverpool’s dynamism there. That’s what we need to shoot for. And Poch clearly sees that.

This was always one of Fergie's major strengths, evolving a team before others realised it needed evolving.

It is without doubt the beginning of a new project, the painful bit may be that this season may be difficult so we'll have to remember it is just a step on the road to greater success.
