Quick question, isnt Chambers a right back? We already have Kyle Walker whose 23 years old with all the potential in the world. Chambers is clearly ready to be first choice somewhere in this league. Getting Chambers is pointless. The fact people are clammoring for him is mind boggling.
He broke through at right back but played centre back a lot of the time in academy, I can see him ending up been a cb longterm

Daily Mirror saying we will offer Townsend as part of a deal for Lallana.

Interesting...
Well AFC Bournemouth have a 25% sell on clause for Lallana, so perhaps Soton will be looking for a player or two as replacements to keep the value given to Bournemouth at a minimum..

Why is everyone so worried about parting with cash? If levy decides to spend that much on one player then I'm all for it. Shows trust, and actual investment this time.

From my perspective, I'd just prefer to see that large sum of money spent more wisely.

Interesting. Swap deals basically never happen, but this is the scenario where you can most see it. We screwed Brighton over this way when we dealt Zamora to West Ham; and in a different way screwed over Wigan by doubling up Palacios to Stoke in a double deal.

I Don't think they would be that underhanded & could you imagine the reprocussions when Bournemouth complain to the FA.. Soton & Spurs would get a points deduction if they swindled Bournemouth out of money

I hope the 4 players are

i) Schneiderlin - best Interception in the league with minimum yellow cards; Perfect in Poch tactics; If we bring him though, Sandro could be on his way; I can't see Sandro, Capoue, Paulinho & Schneiderlin in same squad with Bentaleb, Holtby & Dembele; Rated 15m by Saints

ii) Chambers - Rated better than Clyne in right back position; 4 years younger; Stats wise both are similar, but Chambers has a far better than Aerial duels won than a mediocre 30% of Clyne; Between Clyne vs Chambers, its Chambers for me, but if it comes to picking from entire league, I would go for Joel Ward, who has had exceptional season for Palace.

iii) Ward-Prowse Really good talent, play in CM & RM; But if we have to get him, obviously we have to sell couple of players for starters

iv) Rodriguez A players who has impressed me in last 2 years;Very underrated; Has good dribbling skills; But before getting him, I guess Poch will see what Kane has to offer; I consider both similarly; Kane at 20 has shown signs of improvement;

Lovren is a possible bid, but 15m is too high for him; There are some really good CBs available in the market for that price;

Of these 4, I would be happy to get Schneiderlin & Chambers and sell Naughton & one of our many midfeilders

Not if it's perfectly legal.
Legal in the eyes of the law but not morally right & the FA would punish severely if it was proven we conspired to cheat Bournemouth & it's naïve to think clubs would even consider it, if players arrive at Southampton they would all be separate contracts

Schneiderlin also counts towards the home grown quota as well, which is always a plus

I think this is pretty common practice, can't imagine the FA punishing things that are legal by the book, regardless of moral considerations.

Regardless of what that say, he's a RW and that's where he'll end up. Like zeki will end up at LCB and not LB.

ABCDEFG...if you know what I mean.

Yep. It's like Rose being played left back when he's really a shit left midfielder. He's got no redeeming features of being a left back. I actually feel sorry for the guy that he's been pigeonholed as one.

33million in extra TV money this season though

We will sell a bunch too. We don't need quantity, moreso quality. 5 years of break even transfer windows and a huge influx of TV money should mean we can spend a bit more.

For comparison, the extra TV money is more than we made from our run in the CL. Which everyone always points to as the holy grail of financial windfalls.

A large proportion of what we made in the CL went on paying bonuses to players and staff for getting us there as well. As ridiculous as that sounds!

What Chelsea and that little **** Willian did to us was immoral as fuck, but not illegal.

Anyway FA won't do shit as they are a bunch of gutless wankers.

Theres something sick about this discussion. If I read an equivalent about spurs on another board I think I'd cry.

I feel for the Saints fans too, but whether we go in or not for their players is irrelevant to that. The fact is that a lot of good options are suddenly available and if we sit back and do nothing, those players are not just going to refuse to go to somewhere other than us.

And re the ITK - since it specifically states that we've asked to be kept informed SHOULD the four players in question become available, surely that rules out Shaw and Lallana, no?

Its more the discussion than the act. Like when you are selling your house and people walk around talking about not liking parts and wanting to knock down other bits. Just a bit tactless.

Obviously I'm not expecting us not to talk about it, its a football forum!

Most people assume that we are operating under a tight and fixed budget, and therefore that spending money on one player means less to spend on others. If we had City or Chelsea money, I don't think any of us would really care what players cost, but its a pretty safe bet that we will be aiming near another zero net spend and therefore we want to bring in as much quality as possible with our limited resources.
Do we need many more players? Plus, look at how much money we earned this season. It's all relative.
