Fazza what you said the other night about harrys love for Defoe & Crouch could well be spot on mate

It's pretty evident IMO, Happy to let Pavlyuchenko and Keane go but not sign any other world class striker to replace either of Defoe and Crouch, I wish I was wrong but I'm not so sure now.

Permanent (it might be a loan that becomes a permanent assuming they stay up, as suggested in the media, but it amounts to the same really)

Does it though? They are anything but certain bets to stay up!

What we should be doing right now if we do have all this money to waste is rival Chelsea in a bid to sign Torres, nothing to lose and the player is of World Class calibre. We already got Pienaar ahead of them so why not test the waters hay, Or should we rather waste that money on Andy Carroll, Who would you rather spend it on?

Sign Torres outright, Loan Benzema for 6 months and drop Defoe and Crouch, Would Harry have the guts to do it though?

Got the impression permanent, but not sure.

this

was told they would not entertain a loan where by keane would return again in the summer...

if he goes it will be permanent, maybe dressed as a loan but it will be along the lines of a ladboy....looks like a girl but.....

fazz, I like you, but I think you're being very unfair to Harry. Harry's job remit is 'make Spurs as good as possible'. The better we are, the more handsomely he is ultimately rewards both monetarily and by way of future opportunity (INGERLUND). Therefore, unless you believe Harry to be some sort of martyr who values the career of Crouch and Defoe over his own, it is ludicrous to suggest that he would not improve were he given the opportunity to improve. The better the players we have, the better we perform, the better his career goes, simples. To suggest that he would stick by players who aren't doing it if offered the chance to get players he believes would do it is, well, crazy,.

I think you need to pull yourself away from Football Manager....

Every club in Europe knows we need a striker and that we're willing to splash the cash for a good one. If a transfer falls through elsewhere, I can see a few clubs coming to us at the last minute to unload a player for a decent price. I wouldn't be surprised to see a big transfer on Monday night.

wonder how much Torres' supposed imminent departure would affect Suarez' terms negatioation. As much as Suarez isn't the number 9 we need, without Torres Liverpool need him even less.

Well considering it's all done, I'd say it didn't have an effect.

Aren't we seeing exactly this playing out though, Is Crouch a better striker than Luis Suarez, a guy that ever more sounds like was offered to Harry on a plate.

you missed the point. there is no risk...you travel in time to see the out come...30mil now gets you top 4...or wait till summer and get him free but finish 6th

But in real life time travel doesn't exist.

Is suarez what we need though?

I trust Harry's judgement far more than yours fazza.

I think you need to pull yourself away from Football Manager....

So we'd spend £25 million on Carroll (pure Football Manager as you put it) but won't make a big offer for Torres, say £25 million plus Crouch or Pavlyuchenko, is that really Football Manager as you'd put it, I think not if we are prepared to bid that much on Carroll. Benzema for 6 month loan deal, is that really football manager style as rumors continue that he could be sent out on loan.

Have a think next time will you.

We have absolutely zero chance of getting Torres with Chelsea in for him. It's a complete fantasy to think we could compete, either financially or in terms of what the player wants. There is absolutely no point even discussing it. Even if we matched Chelsea and got Liverpool to accept, we wouldn't be able to pay the wages he wants and he wouldn't want to come. With Carroll, Forlan, Suarez and likely Fabiano out of the question, we're left with two possibilities for monday I think. Either we get lucky and Real Madrid sign a striker (possibly via Torres->Chelsea and Drogba->Madrid) allowing us to take Benzema on loan, or we go all out for Hulk. At this stage I don't see many other alternatives.

Have a think??? Ok, say we fork out the 40-50 million you wants us to spend on Torres. I would imagine he is on at least 100k a week at the Mickey's...How do we go about paying the 150k a week he will doubt be offered at Chelsea?

i agree with this fazza...

even say 25m plus defoe for torres & keep pav?...why not???

as i said previously & this scares the sh*t out of me, i remember michael ricketts having a good season & getting an england cap!

would we pay 30m for ricketts??...cos thats what carroll may end up like & to me thats a way bigger risk than 24m for a goalscoring machine with god knows how many caps for his country

Could it be that Harry is afraid of spending big money after what happened at Portsmouth? He has just restored his reputation from being a wheeler dealer ruining a clubs economy to a manager acually breaking in to top 4. I dont think he wants to go back to the former.

Sorry for the bad english.
