One of the most striking things about the ITK is the fact that Serge is on the list of potential outs. I thought the club line had always been that Trippier was the one to make way.

People don't understand this! No transfer or exceptionally rare is done as a full sum anymore. All in instalments just some are more favourable to the selling or buying club

I think people understand this, I certainly do and as much as I would like us to get him I can’t see us spending £70m in instalments

I think the 70m for de Ligt is crazy in any market, even this hyper inflated market we have currently. The price is enormously inflated for an 18y.o. when you think of recent sales of older more experienced defensive players. When you get into this area of spend, you are really rubbing up against the upper echelon like Real, Barca, Bayern and the Mancs etc. I wonder if Levy suffers from vertigo?
Bayern wouldn’t spend that much!

agreed, it actually becomes a cashflow match. I.E match your payments on players to a combination of TV money and other fixed revenue streams such as sponsorship. It get's a bit dodgey when clubs (everton) start including ticket sales and positions in the mix - they use c.60% of predicted. From what I'm told this doesn't include stadium costs as loan/debt payments are segregated from (pure) operating/football revenue. i.e. we've split one from the other.

wouldn't even call that ITK - simply that I drink a lot with the project/stadium finance teams from a few banks on a friday

If Levy accepts to pay for an 18year old - unproven in premiership - at £70m whether at one go or in installment then he definitely will feel that he can sell in future for more at a profit. He would have done his due diligence.

To be honest, if Poch wants to spend £XXXM on anyone and it means he signs a new long term deal, then Levy should get the deal done pronto.

Not quite as exciting as Hercules' initial updates. £150m regardless of sales seems to have been substantially revised. I would hope the players listed are not the extent of our activity, as I think our biggest weakness, aside from a central midfielder who can dictate the play, is at full-back. If we want to get back to playing the way we did at our best last season - particularly if the plan is to play a back three - then Davies and Trippier are not going to be the guys - they're just no athletic enough. I'd say we need an upgrade in at least one full-back position, as well as two central midfielders, a Toby replacement and a wide forward who can cover Kane to be really in with a shout next season. Also not too thrilled at the prospect of selling Toby to United. I don't buy that he's over the hill. He's 29, and recovered from injury now - he could be world class for them for three or four seasons, and they have to be seen as our most direct competition in the league.

What club line?
Probably the wrong word to use. It seems like the word from the club via the ITK we've had has previously suggested that someone will make way for KWP and that the club sees Trippier rather than Aurier as the one to make way.

Hercules alluded to it for sure a month or so ago, so I wonder if something has changed.

Cant we ban price and funding talk from the daily thread? @Rob

Unless Levy is posting ITK on here its all guesswork.
To be fair, Hercules's post was largely related to prices so it'd be difficult not to address what was said. As annoying as financial talk can be, I don't think it's realistic to ban it from the thread.

I have no problem with spending 70 mil on a player, but I don’t see how a relatively unproven 18 year old is going to take us to the next level. At that age there is no guarantee that he will become the world class star you would expect for that price. He looks a prospect but we still need to improve our first team before we we spend that sort of cash on a player who would essentially be our 3rd choice CB. If we have 70 mil to fling about, might as well add another 10/20and get Griezmann or Dybala. I’m all for de Ligt, but we need to be financially savvy as well. Hopefully Trix is right and we won’t spend that much on him.

If, if we pay £70m for a player it is because we believe that is the current market value for him. Players are worth what someone will pay for them. Will he take us to the next level, well considering he's considered the better prospect of Sanchez and himself, whilst Toby (considered the best CB in the league by most in 16/17 & 15/16) was displaced by Sanchez and was unable to get his place back (although contracts may have been part of the reason), Griezmann is 27, Dybala 24 the kid is just 18 and Man City are happy to beat us on whatever we bid. Do you think that Pochettino can't see the class of a fellow CB or Guardiola can't spot talent?

Me, after the success of Sanchez, added to the fact we have DL (who for all his faults, certainly couldn't be described as a benevolent leader) if we spend big, so be it

An ITK posts something that can be taken negatively and you literally cry like babies resulting in 20 pages of oh woe is me.

An ITK says.....
We won't pay 70mil for De ligt.
And it gets ignored in the rush to tell the world how you wouldn't pay 70 million because of this, that the other or your current football manager game told you its bad.

Here it is again, just in case you truly are a dunderhead.

We won't pay 70mil for De ligt.

And once more because I know we've got some incredibly slow people on the firm.

We won't pay 70mil for De ligt.

All in all it looks like the club is going to be more ambitious and pragmatic than we ever have in a single transfer window. Let's all rejoice in that. Like others have already pointed it's premature to speculate in actual transfers fees, net spend, "War chest" and so forth as they are all intertwined with other factors that have yet to materialize.

I'm more worried about the contract situations for our key players and Pochettino. That's the foundation that have built our current success. But the ITK on that has been quite positive as well.

Oh my days...the drama about who'll cost what and how much we'll spend.

ITK seems to state Poch will be backed. Given he's our manager, one would think that suggests he intends to try and improve the squad, and no doubt the first Xl.

We'll spend what the club can afford, and hopefully the players Poch wants we get and they improve us.

I'm not suggesting the club acts irresponsible with finances for signings (Sissoko:LOL:) but c'mon, we all want better, threads asking how do we take the next step, the posts about winning trophies.

If the club have X amount to spend to improve us. I intend to enjoy this notion and eagerly await to see what gems will don the shirt.

Spend the feck outta it, then spend some more.

COYS!...enjoy!

Exactly, @Trix is right. It’s also like people don’t read the manager’s book where Levy says they won’t be spending that much on a single player or listen to the manager when he said the same thing in a press conference two weeks ago.

The two people who actually know what’s happening also get completely ignored or forgotten.
