Wonder who the targets are that we're not approaching to buy then.

All the way back to square one, this feels oddly familiar to something else.

Fuck a duck.

Poch has been over this ad infinitum in interviews regarding believing in the project, his thoughts on signing players, operating in a completely different way etc etc...it's out there all over the t'interweb, so why JJ's latest comes as any surprise is beyond me....
Exactly just watch his press conferences since December or January all very consistent- Go to Youtube search on Beanyman sports Pochettino

Poch knows what he has at youth level, they also know what is required from Poch, going with youth at this point IMO isn't anymore of a risk than spending over the odds on a player that Poch doesn't know and that may or may not hit the ground running.

Poch has always liked young hungry players, players he can mould with his philosophy, players who will be loyal to him, players able to play the high intensity football he wants. Maybe he feels as the likes of Janssen, Llorente, N'Koudou etc., have not really worked that it is time to try some academy players not necessarily for this season but ready for the next

It doesn’t come as a surprise to me - it just says to me that Poch is being an arrogant idiot by thinking we will get by with a 45 year old tree with legs up front. No Son, Lucas, Kane, Dele, Wanyama, Dembele and he doesn’t want reinforcements? Fuck me

But Herc is saying that Poch does have targets, they just aren't targets that the club can secure. Who the fault belongs to is open to interpretation, I suppose.
I suspect that this would have been the view at Liverpool when Klopp wanted a centre half costing 75m or a GK costing 67m, those were both world record fees for the positions so completely unattainable, except their board backed their manager so they could actually challenge City not just be part of the race for CL, it’s called sporting ambition and ENIC don’t have it.

I’m not sure what to think anymore. I know people have said many times to take ITK with a grain of salt.

Why can we suddenly get players in now, in a harder window to make deals and certainly not in a position of leverage, but could not do so this summer? Makes no sense unless the exact same thing happened this summer. We didn’t hear that much this summer like what we heard today in terms of Poch and stubbornness though.

This past summer we heard a LOT of positive ITK going into the stadium about great players done and ready, but then nothing obviously happened transfer wise. Heard various “well, it’s hard to get the players in, etc”. Heard things about Poch not being happy about it either.

Now we are hearing the opposite and that Poch won’t take anyone unless he is a top top prospect and is ready to go forward with a clearly depleted squad. It sounds like we can get players in now but Poch is being stubborn and saying no.

Basically the summer ITK mostly seemed to blame Levy and now the winter ITK mostly seems to blame Poch.

Was the stuff leaked this summer to get people excited going into the season (but wasn’t really true) and is this stuff now being leaked to start putting Poch as the bad guy which probably hints at his exit in the summer (but not really true). That would be the cynical part of my thoughts. Obviously I would hope not.

I really don’t think we know because we have not had solid ITK on specific names Poch wants other than DeJong and seemingly DeLigt. Maybe Werner according to JJ. Unless we know the names we can get right now that Poch is turning down, hard to make sense and know who is in the wrong, and knowing those names will obviously never happen.

My take on it is that Poch feels the way that many of us supporters do, ie that we need to add a couple of genuinely top class players to this squad to take the next step and really challenge for the Premier League and Champions League. These would need to be players that are at that level now and not prospects who may be there in 2-3 years time, by which time we may well have lost some of our best players. I think it's very unlikely that we will pay out the transfer fees, agents fees and wages to secure those kind of players so I can only see this ending in tears unfortunately. The only way I see us buying genuine quality is if we we lose someone like Eriksen, so we'll stand still at best in all likelihood.

Looks like I'll be avoiding this thread for the rest of the winow.

Poch and Levy both are right and wrong in this situation. Poch feels we can only improve the squad by signing better than what we have. He's not wrong. No point signing someone just because, otherwise you get the likes of GKN, Llorente, Janssen etc. who nobody seems to be happy with trusting with our key players injured. We cannot seem to shift them, so why buy more we can't shift later on?

I honestly don't think this signals Poch being off though. Feel like he loves the challenge to prove everyone wrong and win a trophy, even more so under these circumstances.

Well December and January Poch has been saying we need to operate differently to how we have in the last 5 years.

I'm with Poch. I don't believe we are not an attractive prospect to top players now - with the possibility of our 4th consecutive CL campaign next year.

Sounds like Poch has his short list of players (de Ligt, de Jong, etc) that for whatever reason we can’t secure and he isn’t budging even though there is enough money there to buy players whom others in the room believe would help us.

Hence the stubbornness comment from Herc.

Interesting reading this, hard to know what to think. Seems absolutely crazy to think we would happily leave ourselves short through stubbornness.

We can't ask for him to stay with us and create a dynasty with spurs and argue that as more ambitious than joining United and then turn round and tell him that the every single player he desires is unobtainable I guess. If we are suggesting he has the mentality to believe in spurs long term then he will be asking the club to be ambitious in who we believe we can bring in. If that makes any sense, not in a duh buy top players win games mentality but in a if we are to believe he can win the league with spurs, the club needs to believe in its own ability to pull off impossible deals.

If the 3 or 4 players on Pochs ‘list’ are unattainable, does that mean we won’t ever sign a player under his management again? However long or short that may be.

Why don't we use the loan market then? Would suit everyone's needs.

I'm sure there's players out there we could loan for the rest of the season to plug a gap or 2

This is the most anti-poch way i guess. He just hates short term solution

I've got to be honest... I would absolutely love to see Poch bring through the 'average' youth we've got, see our worldies return and us win two or three trophies as total under dogs. Leicester won the league not that long ago and in Poch's defence, none of us now want a squad full of bang average players on over inflated salaries.... That's how Arsenal do football. ;)

Is Poch's "stubbornness" really that hard to comprehend?

DL: "So, Poch, we're lining up a couple of loan deals and a Championship player for the January transfer window. De Ligt, de Jong and Timo are being offered more money from clubs we can't afford to compete with. What do you reckon?"

Poch: "I'll stick with what I've got."
