While this isn't directly ITK, it does confirm that we have been talking to/ interested in McCarthy:

I take it Chelsea's pursuit of Stones has ruined any chance of us getting McCarthy? @jetsetyid

you will have to speak to someone at EFC about that as we don't know?

Ha! This was me tweeting.

It seems to me by all accounts still haven't put in a bid for McCarthy. All I can think is maybe we still think there might be life in the Rabiot deal...

Could just mean that they haven't been informed of any changes?

I think that we will try to get these 2 positions sorted by the time we fly out to the states.

I expect bids to go in (another for Njie) and maybe a cabbage too

I'd be happy with Rabiot ......... IF we got somebody like Cambiasso in on a free as well.

I know our 2 mainstay DMs last season are a year older and more experienced but I'm not convinced they have enough experience yet and with another youngster coming in a Cambiasso figure could really help them.

Although from some on here we are going to be using either Dier, Alderweireld or ANother in DM position

Fast in areas where they could be opportunistic - Trippier's release clause, Atletico being willing sellers of TA. But slow in other areas, ie when a player isn't easily gettable.

The fact is we play away at Manchester United in 17 days, and we're going to do so with the same talented but ultra naive, physically weak central midfield that got its bottom spanked there a few months back.

Yet still helped us to a fifth place finish in the PL.

Unless the incomings arrive within this week, i don't see them feature in the first game vs Man U.
IMHO, the players to feature at OT are all in the squad presently.
Lets hope Utd are too then, as I think they have a lot more money to spend!

Bentaleb and Mason were the 5th best CM in the EPL last season. Probably in the top 15 in Europe. They were 20 and 23.

We've already brought in Alli to add to the ranks, Veljkovic and Winks now training with the first team, and Carroll and Dembele are still around (for now).

We need one new CM. Two would just mean more shirt blockers clogging up the production line. It needs to be one of Rabiot, Cambiasso or McCarthy.

If, as seems more than likely, Carroll or Dembele move on, we would have room for 1 extra experienced guy to help nurture the youth through the last 15-20 minutes of a game we were winning. Help the team hold on to all 3 points.

Suggestions from ITK yesterday that Carroll could be part of any Villa deal for Adebayor (I'm guessing about the location, but it would make a whole lot of sense). That brings us down to Bentaleb and Mason, plus relatively untested (yet very promising) Velkjovic, Ali and Winks. Also strong suggestions Dembele is not for sale. I think one quality CM will put a whole new slant on things. Targetting/buying a round peg for an round hole in the managers view, not trying to force a square peg into a round hole just because said option was cheap.

With so few options left, I do wonder if one main signing like for example McCarthy/Rabiot for PL, will still leave room for a second player to come in, an older head like Cambiasso or Motta, with the intention of being used predominantly in Europa as a guiding hand for some of our talented stock of youngsters?

I cannot for the life of me see, that after Levy making such a step change in his approach to sales, actively clearing the less wanted players early, even at a loss, historically he would have tried to hold out till the last minute asking higher prices, will then go and undo all that promise by not delivering an improved option for the manager. Seems bizarre to even consider. The squad and wage bill must have been cleared for a reason, that being to bring in better calibre/more suitable options.

Yes we play Yanited in a couple of weeks time!!!!!
Do we honestly think we have a chance of getting 3 points?
Whether we sign a new DM, WF and Striker will it make that much difference?

To many on here it seems as if it's all dependent on new signings!

We will get a result at OT no matter who plays on the day, have some faith in our team and manager.

Agreed it won't make any difference at sell. We're hardly going to rush through a deal and/or shell out more cash for 1 game where we will be massive underdogs anyway

Hysteria on here

Will having better players in our team give us a better chance of winning the game? I would say it's likely to give us a better chance, yes.

If we signed Messi tomorrow, he wouldn't feature in our first game of the season. Poch will start with the side that finished the season strongly and introduce the new players slowly when they start performing in EL or from the bench. He plays a straight bat with team selection.

Unless there are injuries, we'll start at OT with HL / KW, ED, JV, DR / RM, NB / EL, CE, NC / HK - irrespective of who we sign.

Why bring up Messi? When it will never happened.

Poch wants a tighter squad of 22-25. We still have 30 players in our first team squad. Losing both Carroll and Dembele and replacing them with one player leaves us about right on CM numbers (with Veljkovic and Winks being promoted to 5th and 6th choices)

Surely we'd be better off loaning those youngsters so they get a proper season under their belts rather than sitting around waiting for the occasional cup sub appearance?

So Poch will disregard everything he's seen in preseason? It's not as simple as that.

He'll pick what he thinks is the team which will get a result, which none of us know since we don't get to see what happens on the training ground.
