It's funny, a few years ago it looked like we'd never see the original Lamela fee again, but these days I guess it's the going rate. Same with Wanyama, the £11m we paid was oddly cheap then, but although he's not at top form at the moment, I can't imagine he'd go for less than £25m in this market. Amazing how much could be raised through sales at the moment, and then even replaced with some academy products if we went for quality over quantity in incomings (Bale).
Strewth, just came back from a couple of hours down the pub and all Hell's broken loose. Bale, Savic and Lord knows who else.
Here's my take, over the last 4 or 5 years we had a virtually zero transfer budget. That was because the banks didn't know how we were going to finance the new stadium. Once that was sorted Dear Leader, all of a sudden, has a bigger budget for transfers, especially when we have got CL going into the new stadium. AND having CL going into the new stadium, the potential sponsors can see the benefit of signing top, top class geezers!. We were also informed by ITK that good things would happen this summer. We were not told whether it was players or sponsors. Now, IF DL has stashed away the money ear-marked for transfers in previous years, then we could have a lot more money than has been let on.
Bascically some players are for sale , like all players are for the roght price, however those we would consider something too good for ... llorente is obvious no further on there and even more obvious is sissoko. Looks like we have a plan of action, if poch is stayijg signing improved deal then we must be confident of some big but 'game changing' signings ... improving us properly
