Beating a dead horse here, but I am with Poch on this - just bringing in a body, who may not fit in with the culture of the club - will do more long-term harm than any short-term gain.

For this to be a viable position, you have to believe there has not been a single available striker in all the world who fits in our squad the last two windows. If you believe that, then the next question is: will there ever be a striker that fits in our squad?

I'm oddly pessimistic about all this. I only see one positive about not signing anyone and lots of negatives.

Next season, City will have Guardiola, Utd will probably have Mourinho, Chelsea will be good again, Liverpool will be vastly improved, Arsenal will be Arsenal. This season is our best chance, and will be our best chance in years, to not only get 4th but challenge for the title. I believe we need a proper striker as a back up to Kane. Not just because Kane may get injured but because he can't play every game then go straight on to a Euro championships, then having minimal rest before the premiership starts again next season. We're not the same when Son plays up front alone, obviously because he's not Kane and anyone we bring in won't be Kane, but Poch wants Berahino and must have a plan to play a certain way to fit Berahino in. He'll have a plan for anyone he wants in and there must be similar players around that will fit the system he wants to play. Doesn't matter if it's for 3 months of 5 years. I just think it's so important to do this now, not because I just want a signing on transfer day, but because I desperately believe it will go against us this season if we don't.

The one positive is that the players themselves will be happy that no one is coming in because none of them will feel their place in the team or the squad is under threat and they can continue to be happy and banterous with eachother, though signing someone would've given Alli a chance to wave to him when he comes into the ground. We're denying Alli a waving opportunity. It's not on.

I said last summer that it is hard finding the right striker who has quality, and is willing to sit behind Kane. Those guys want to play - not ride the bench. We don't need someone coming in here, and then complaining if they do not get enough playing time.

I'd love for us to find the right guy - but Spurs are clearly working on a longer-term vision when it comes to this squad. I trust what they are doing.

Broadly speaking, I'm with you. But what is the barometer of success for the long term vision? Regularly being in the CL? Winning the league, maybe?

If the latter is in any way involved in their planning, we have a chance to do that. This season. It's not only about what position we are in now, but what position others are in too. United and City won't be this inconsistent again - new managers and massive investment are guaranteed in the summer. Chelsea will do the same. Then there's that other lot from up the road and suddenly we're scrapping with others for fourth again. As it stands right now, we're incredibly close to being the best side in the country.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that we do a Leeds. The point is that we don't need to! Nor do we need to sign a complete stop gap for the next few months and saddle ourselves with a long term wage drain. Yes, it's hard to sign the right players, but that is why our management team and scouting staff are paid so well. One or two signings this January could have sent a message of intent, both this season and beyond, that we're no longer interested in challenging just for the top four, but instead we're going to be challenging for the title.

As it is, it looks like we'll all be happy with a top 4 finish and a cup run. But targets should be fluid and goals revised. We're so close. But close doesn't get the title. And yes, the game has changed, but if we had (or if we somehow do) listened to Sir Bill this January, who knows what might have happened?

Improving depth is improving the squad. We aren't needing to upgrade Kane, we are needing to provide him a backup. I do think that is more than plausible for a club like us to purchase today. Whether or not it happens, we will see.

Yes but only if that player is available, their club agree a fee, and the player wants to join, and most of all if the player joins, and then plays he can do the job well enough. I'd rather try Chadli or Son then just buy a player that makes the numbers up
