Illaramendi looks exactly like the kind of player Poch wants in MF. Will be interesting to see the sort of money we're talking about though, sure Madrid paid something in the region of €30m to get him from Sociadad!

Really hope one of the "Ins" this week in the Goats info is a striker though. Berahino would still be my preference unless there is another "Worldie" out there who's name is being kept completely under wraps!

Ok, fair enough. Have to say I haven't watched anything but the MOTD highlights. But I would still say that CBs often make less mistakes if they are helped out by a shielding DM - like Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd have.

Something else those three clubs have is bag fulls of money just lying about the place.

"You need to forget the way he plays at Madrid, and look at how he played at Sociadad. He will have been asked to play a very different role at both clubs."

I'm not big on Spanish football. Could somebody please expand on what Trix is alluding to here? How did he play for Sociedad?

Asier is not a true dm, not tough tackling that gets stuck in, hes more cm, great playmaker, forward through balls, very skillful. Great addition but doesnt solve our problem protecting the high def line

Not true at all. Absolute brilliant interception skills. Anyway - take general chat about the player to the player thread. This is ITK thread

Reminds me somewhat of Carrick. Not an all action enforcer, more in the right place at the right time to pick off the ball, and play it simply away.

In fairness, if someone would have said by September all of our deadwood would be gone, literally all of it, and we'd bring in Trippier, Wimmer, Alli, Alderweireld, N'jie, Berahino and Illarramendi plus brought Pritchard into the first team, and never lost Lloris & Kane, regardless of our results on the pitch before then, we'd all be saying it was potentially our best window ever.

We are potentially looking very, very good for the future imo.

All the talk is that he's available for £15m.

Him and Berainho should just be affordable with our current surplus and Fazio/Lennon/Carroll money

I don't agree with this concept that we have a list of players that we try for, if one fails we move to the next. I'm sure we make moves for several players together. Transfers are very complicated and it's not a simple case of asking "is this player available and if so how much for". I'm sure we put the necessary groundwork into signing several players in each position we're looking to fill. As we get to the finer details and close in on a certain player we can always end interest in others.

I'm sure Illaramendi would be one of our favourible choices but I am sure we'll have other options brewing as well. It's not like we would accidently sign 3 defensive midfielders together. A deal could get to the final stages before we pull out if something better comes off first.

Doesn't matter where they have got it from they have still got it. Any club can go out and buy a DM with decent defensive qualities very few can afford the DM's that have good technique and can actually play aswell.

He's not Graham Roberts but he gets stuck in when he needs to. He also has great positional sense and reads the game better than anyone we currently have. His form has suffered at RM but I think he'd be a great signing for us although I'd prefer him centrally in a MF3 for some games.

Which is something we need, so many times we get the ball and rather go for a simple pass or punt up field we tend to play it to a player who has 4 markers around him or go back to the defence and put them under pressure.

Exactly! Look at Terry without the correct protection......very ordinary defender without the right players around him!

The huge clubs like Madrid, Barca, Utd often sell at a big loss so I wouldnt be surprised if we can get him for closer to €20 mil.

As someone else mentioned, the real issues are persuading him to sign and hoping no-one else comes in for him. We won't be able to offer the wages of some bigger clubs so hopefully first team football is his no.1 priority.
