Did anyone else feel that something died with Lennon's substitution. After our initial chant of "There's only one Aaron Lennon" the atmosphere subsided substantially. Also our performance lost all urgency after that moment and some players appeared to stop fighting to an extent.
It was as if with the departure of Lennon EVERYONE involved with Spurs accepted the defeat, and everyone lost faith. The players lost faith in themselves and the fans lost faith in the players, and I think perhaps at that moment 90% of the fans AND players lost faith in Ramos, including those who have supported him right up until today. We didn't chant "You don't know what you're doing" when Lennon was subbed, but I bet everyone sat near someone who said Ramos clearly doesnt know what he's doing. Basically, most of us were thinking it.
With Ramos in charge I can only see relegation, and I'm starting to believe that many of the players, especially those who know the Premiership well (most notably Woodgate) are thinking the same.
Personally I believe that the next few football decisions our club makes will determine whether or not we stay up, as we are very much in a relegation battle from now until May. We need 38 points from 29 games - thats not easy, and we've already faced 3 of the league's weaker teams at home.
I would be all for Venables coming back and taking charge of the team until the end of the season with Poyet still as Asst Coach. Get rid of Ramos and Comolli and make the objective for Venables very clear - he is caretaker boss until the end of the season, and then he will become DoF. Having worked with the squad he will be in a good position to highlight transfer targets to strengthen weak areas. Most importantly though, he will be in charge of appointing the club's next manager. I know not everyone likes Venables, and I'm not his biggest fan. But at least that would mean football decisions made by football men. At the moment the club is being destroyed by boardroom decisions. I know this wont happen, and I'm genuinely going to put a sizeable bet on us on going down because I think Ramos will remain, but that is what I would do.
