IF Phillips comes in, alongside Dier and behind PEH, he gets some serious protection. Dier for all his faults, will not let Phillips get battered.

Coming into a positive Ange team, with an amazing crowd behind him, and an 8W-1L rather than a 1W-8L record, is basically a free hit for the kid. I really want him blooded tbh, he’s enormous, strong and fast. Even if he’s not “ready”, he could well be by January.

Dier challenges for the ball and tells Phillips to concentrate on sweeping behind.

What’s wrong with porro

In the U.S, so watched on the tele.. he twisted his ankle when he went down off the pitch late in the first half.

It looked really bad and I was honestly surprised to see him not only carry on but play the full 90. Sure icy/hot and adrenaline carried him through the game.

Didn't help we were down to 9 and basically doing preseason fitness runs in the 2nd half.

Am I getting mixed up or did Bissouma play some games at RB for Brighton? Know Caicedo did a bunch.

The CB dilemma is interesting. Needing pace is essential for the high line when out of possession but when in possession (presumably 60-70% of the game. Against wolves) the CBs need incredible composure to pass out from the back. The slightest error here will get punished severely.

so Phillips may have the pace but does he have the composure to pop the ball around under pressure in his own box?

I think I’d go with bissouma in balance. This as brings hojberg in at 6 who is our highest quality sub therefore the overall drop in level of the team is minimised.

He’ll be fine for Sat. The guy played almost 120 mins in Monday, of course he’ll be a bit sore.
Also twisted his left ankle Monday. Adrenaline probably got him through the match. Still think he will be ok by Saturday.

With Madders out for a bit and 90 minutes still possibly beyond Lolo, this is surely Lo Celso’s last opportunity to stake a claim as the left-sided number 8.

Vicario

Porro
Dier
Phillips
Emerson

Sarr
Bissouma
Lo Celso

Johnson
Son
Kulusevski

If that’s something close to our starting XI for the upcoming month or so I dread to think what the bench will look like. Davies (if fit) Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Gil, Veliz and a couple of kids(?).

It’s been a great start to the season but I think the next few games might test our optimism. We cannot afford any more injuries and Bissouma is still only a yellow away from another suspension.

Would like to see us play a creative midfielder, rather than 3 workhorses in midfield
Agree mate although I don’t think Bentancur is fit enough to start yet and not sure Ange trusts Lo Celso so can see it being Bissouma PEH and Sarr, PEH can create bits from n.o8 like he does for Denmark but I’d like to see Lo Celso given a chance now Maddison is out and perform like he did pre-season for us.
