So... back to the drudgery of the Premiership after our Champions League diversion... do we rotate a little to give the Pavs, Krankys and Gio's some game time, or do we, as I suspect Harry will, stick with the usual formula?

I'd go, assuming Gomes is fine, and Modric is not available or ready for 90 minutes action...

Gomes
Corluka Daws Bassong Disco
Lennon Jenas Hudd Bale
Gio
Pavs

It's a weird one to call, with Defoe off for surgery, unsure about Modric and with Gallas coming in. I'm inclined to give JJ game time, especially after a good performance against Stoke and I think we should be able to deal with Wigan without Wilson. Mebbe Bale could drop into LB behind Kranjcar? Or Kranjcar just off Pavs, or Crouch. Keano?

Sod this, I really don't know. Good luck 'Arry.

Go...

Not gone for it yet, he goes in on monday or tuesday. But then the interviewer after the game was saying he might not go for it at all....

But Defoe is available for this game.

Hmm. Winning at Wigan will make it a triffic start to the season. We have some very winnable fixtures coming up, and Wigan is the first. With an international break coming up and 3 or so weeks before our CL campaign gets underway, I say we play as close to full strength as we can.

Gomes

Kaboul Dawson Bassong BAE

Lennon Hudd JJ Bale

Pav Defoe

We wont play 4-4-1-1 or 4-5-1 at home in the EPL. That is one thing im sure off. Always 4-4-2.

Well that's just pissed on my picnic

At the moment you could send out any 11 players of ours and I'd be happy!

Assuming that Defoe will delay his op just that little bit longer.

Gomes (if fit)
Corluka Kaboul Gallas BAE
Bentley Hudd JJ Bale
Crouch Pavlyuchenko

Bit of a tough one though! I'd rest Dawson, Lennon, Defoe and Palacios after Wednesday's game in favour of starting JJ, Pav, Bentley and Kaboul.

I'm assuming Gallas and Sandro are both available to debut?

yeah, I know walker is a stretch, but he looked so good in pre-season. defoe, modric, and gomes out due to injury. lennon does not look 100% yet. I think bassong is still in the dog house with harry. although it would be nice to rest them, disco benny and bale have looked so good on the left I hate to break them up. just don't want to burn bale out. we've seen that JJ and THudd together has little to no chemistry and we saw what happened to the Spurs midfield without THudd there in the first half against young boys. so, keep 'em together. COYS!!!

P.S. just giving crouchy a little rest so he can come on with 25-30 minutes left as SUPER SUB with a late brace to crush wigan :hump:

Bentley is injured. Gallas is lacking match fitness, but you only get that by playing I suppose - but I think that fitness will come via reserve games rather then a start vs wigan. Wouldnt surprise me though!

I would go for some rotation too to give some players a rest, while giving other players more competitive match time:

Cudicini (assuming Gomes is out for 2 weeks)
Walker/Kaboul - Dawson - Bassong - BAE
Lennon - SANDRO - Huddlestone - Bale
Gio (assuming Modric is out still)
Pavlyuchenko

With Jenas to come on for Sandro, Rose for Bale, Crouch for Pav in the 2nd half (unless Pav is having a great game).
I also presume Keane is not going to be risked with a view to a sale.

We need to be sensible. We can't play our strongest lineup on every mid week match and every weekend. This is Wigan; played 2, lost 2, conceded 10, scored 0. We are at home, we can afford to play some of our very very strong squad members.

I think this is a game for Kaboul, JJ, Bassong and Kranjcar. I'd maybe even stick Bale on the bench.

Cudicini

Kaboul Dawson Bassong Assou-Ekotto

Lennon Jenas Palacios Kranjcar

Giovani Pavlyuchenko

Subs: Alnwick, Crouch, Bale, Huddlestone, Keane, Walker, Corluka.

Dont think Gallas is match fit yet and assuming King cant play it would have to be a toss up between Bassong and Kaboul.
Will be a good game for Walker to take part in and get a bit more experience.
Gio to play SS

Sod rotation at the moment. Need to put out our strongest lineup available. Once we are up and running and got some points in the bag can we think about bringing in some cover. The lads are professional athletes. They don't need to rest 4 games into the season...

How can anyone drop Crouch after his hat-trick?

Cudicini
Corluka....Dawson....Bassong....Ekotto
Lennon....Palacios....Huddlestone....Bale
Defoe....Crouch

I think Wilson will be up for this one so i've gone with him in the middle. Bassong in for Crouch and Cudicini in for the injured Gomes. Other than that, the same again. We don't need to make too many changes, try and keep it consistent.

My only concern is that Bale might not have the legs for the game given Thursday's win. Otherwise I can't see us scoring less than 3 goals.

Hmmm. After the euphoria of ECL qualification, one eye on pitting our wits against the European champions, against a team with the worst start in Premiership history, on the back of beating them 9-1 last season...

What could possibly go wrong?

I think games like this are the biggest test of Harry's management skills, and how far we've come.

I'm nervous.

You don't think Bale will have the legs? Are you serious? Do you realise just how fit a professional footballer is? Jesus... Plus you mean Wednesday. There is no reason why anyone that is njury free can't play two games a week 2 and a half weeks into the season. Get a grip... Let's put out our strongest team and batter them. They already have a gd in minus double figure and haven't scored in about 4 or 5 league matches... We need to use this oppotunuty to get some goals ourselves. You don't see Chelsea resting anyone...
